Been purchasing equipment piece by piece. Now I am looking for some GPS. Looking for cheaper end. Static is great, RTK would be nice but only if price is right. Thought 2 Emlid reach rs or the new igage static unit they replaced the x90 with. Any ideas on these or other (say ebay used, etc.) Options?

If your any bit tech savvy grab a reach and a DC that has serial connection with either SurvCE or Field Genius you can run a nice rover setup for cheap. Use an RTK network if you have one. or get another reach a hotspot and use the free NTRIP Caster and have your own base. Going to be purchasing one of these to use a base in the next few weeks myself.

Keep your eye out for some HiPerr V's. There's a couple floating around that we had stolen this year. You can probably pick them up for a really cheap price.

What kind of surveying are you doing? The only static work I've done in the last 20 years was for mapping control.
You can get a good Base/Rover system on eBay that's not GLONAS for pretty cheap.
I have a super deal on a complete Trimble RTK nonGLONAS system I'd sell you very reasonably. If you pay enough I'd even come teach you how to use it.
I wouldn't try to jury rig some piece meal system. You want to be able to jump out of the truck setup and go to work.

I have looked at the stuff on ebay. Just not found anything to go wow over. Used to use all trimble at a former company and my last used topcon. Admittedly, we did not do much RTK as I was on the DOT side and they did not allow RTK for most cases. Could use for section work but control was always static. Think for most projects the static would be great for setting control on SPC.

I suggest that with ELECTRONICS, get the BEST you can get. Buying yesterday 'lectronics don't make sense... for lots of reasons.
If you buy The I-Gage gear, apparently you will have to switch to CARLSON data collector. (For some, that's a +) but you should know this early in.

But, back to the first sentence above. The WORLD we live in, is increasingly filled with Electronics. (How many smart phones do you see?) and, this translates into a general need for the ability to work in alot of radio noise. So, buy the best you can.
