The launch of GPS 2F-6 on Friday was the first major US launch that used GPS racking as the primary rocket location source. Up until Friday radar was the primary means of rocket tracking for range safety. All launch vehicles will be transitioning to GPS tracking where the rocket vehicle reports i's GPS position.
