So I??ve used the Topcon Hiper VR base & rover system about 2 years ago with a Topcon FC5000 & Pocket 3D software before for extensive topo under selectively cleared pine canopy (Longleaf & loblolly pines that were maybe 50-70?? tall). The developer preferred to have smaller swale easements every lot line or sometimes every other lot line @ 100?? apart so the contractor used a mulcher on every easement & the 60?? R/W for the streets.?ÿ
site was calibrated using another??s control & everything checked really tight but majority of the control was fairly open. Up on the high point the GPS worked flawlessly. On the low side of the site surveying the edge of wetlands (very thick & not cleared) I would occasionally lose RTK lock but regain it within 30 seconds or so - you can always tighten or loosen your acceptable tolerances for this. I decided since there was plenty of poison still around that I??d ride the site on a Kubota with the tablet & rover with the base setup on the high ground. Was able to topo the site in half a day with multiple stops due to the Kubota dragging debris. That being said - I would try to reobserve really important horizontal & vertical aspects multiple times at several hours apart where possible
Upstate NY....javad ls plus and t3 user...very happy....just the support and javad community is worth giving them a shot. Browse their web site and youtube channel and see the kind of company they are. Guys in the field involved in support and design every day
I had a feeling this thread was going to turn into a Javad commercial.?ÿ
@LeeGreen,?ÿ
I used to be a Topcon fan. Back when they were painting Javads yellow, and selling them!

Yes, I remember. You also used some old L1 gear. Was it Locus?
?ÿI feel the OP can do well with adding static and post processing to his tool kit.
I'm a fan of sticking to one label as it seems to work best when labels are matched. Plus I'm vested too deep in one label to change, as my pockets are not that deep.
Recently I jumped into Terrestrial Laser Scanner game. I works wells so far with all my gear. Currently workung on 3d virtual walk thru. Not much use for boundary work, unless you want detailed topo.

I've still got 5 of them.
Still have 2 Topcon legacy e units.
I'm worried that someday, a Chinese (or other) gps unit will get real good, and that will give everybody a GPS unit, for less than $ 1000.00 and that will kick the big players out, who are the inovaters, who have invested in r&d, to get us where we are, and that this will cause innovation to stop.
I love the innovation, and fancy ability to get shots, that were impossible with GPS several years ago.?ÿ
I want the innovation to continue.
When I've hiked up some steep canyons, and found an old survey mark from the 1970's, and I stick my javad LS on it, and wonder if I am going to get it, and 15 minutes later, I've got 3 shots, within an ellipse that's 0.12' x 0.06', it puts a smile on my face.
My name is Nate, and I'm an innovation addict! I admit it.

Yes, I do the same with my gear. In woods,, I run my gear similar to your LS. I collect static at the base and rover, while doing RTK. In heavy multi path areas where I have only one rover with me, I will collect 180 epochs of rtk. Dump the SV's then collect again using same point number in controller.?ÿ The field software gives me the option to overwrite,?ÿ rename, or perform a weighted average. After all of that I also have static data to compare with the RTK when I get back to the office. On large wooded tracts I just leave static rovers at each monument I find during my reconn. After all recievers are out I take a break for a few minutes or so, then go back and pick up the recievers and do it all over again. If I don't find a monument at its general location per record, I set a coordinate pair to stake from using TS.?ÿ
Nate, are you comfortable setting a monument with RTK under dense canopy? Not me.

I've got something called RTPK. Real Time Post Processed Kinematic.
So, I get post processed data in the field.
And, a single javad rtk shot, is a very cleverly designed series of resets, independent shots, and epochs.
And, I ALWAYS re shoot the rebar as set, afterwards.
Now, facts.
I feel that set rebar, are probably 0.02 to 0.05' LESS accurate, than found monuments.
I've thought of using rtk to get within 0.25'. Then, shoot it 3x, this would be on a dimple in the dirt, or a nail, then use compass and box tape, to set the final monument. But, often, I just don't care about a few hundredths.?ÿ
Lee, let's meet and I'll demo it. It'll blow your mind. But, let's wait a couple of months, till after I get my LS ?? plus. I'm getting it upgraded, to the ?? model, but they are out of parts. I'm told it'll take 4-5 weeks to ship both ways, get in line, and get the guts changed.?ÿ I've ordered a Triumph 3, for my base. This will bring my base up to date, with 4 constellations. But there is a delay on getting the rover updated.

No need for that. I live only a 12 miles from Duane Frymire. If I needed to see it, I'd contact him. We did meet on a project several years ago.

The new LS plus, is many miles ahead of the old one.
Duane is a good fellow.?ÿ
All good surveyors look for the best way to run a traverse.
The javad represents the best of the best.
Let me know.

I'm vested too deep in one label to change, as my pockets are not that deep.
My pockets weren't deep enough to stay With one brand.
My first demo with Javad was maybe 5-6 yrs ago. It was a T2 on base, LS on rover, and a radio. Beast mode was just released. This gave 5 epochs per second. We were in Hot Springs, and Shawn Billings came up. I saw it give the right answer on a point in a pine thicket, that was impossible. (With anything else at the time) It took it 20 minutes. We got it a couple of times, over 2 hours. These shots were "verified". This means that we watched it go through many iterations of that point. It runs like a flow chart. Do this, do that, go to phase 2, run for so long, jump back to phase 1, (with separation of time) and see if it gives the same answer, after some time has passed, and the satellites have moved, then it's verified, and you store the shot.
We basicly understood "the future is here".
It took me a few months to buy it. It's been an interesting ride. Many changes have come. Upsampling has allowed 5 epochs per second, with 1 second radio transmissions.?ÿ
I'm not promoting it for any other reason, than to improve our profession.
Have I had problems?
Yes. The t2 case is pure junk. I got caught in an afternoon Thunder shower, and it was very hot. It took the t2 from very hot, to some 70 degrees. It sucked water in. It had to go home, and get repaired. It's been home twice now. Radio has been home twice too. It was under warranty, one of the times, but I paid once too.
I've got a new case (3rd one) for my t2 sitting on the shelf. The one presently on it has cracks. I've silicone it up. This 3rd one seems to be a different consistency. Maybe it'll be better.
Why do I still promote it, with these past headaches?
Well, it really gets the surveys done.?ÿ
I think they will fix the quality control problems. But, you can never fix a bad survey, without big trouble, most of the time.
It works.

@tom-bushelman, I looked into that system, the surveyor stimulus one for the T-LS+ with a T-3.?ÿ ?ÿQuite impressive, and thank you for the heads up
Nate,
Have you tried the ARDOT network? We have been using it for about a year now. It has 4 constellations available and it is really very good. It is a VRS system and I am impressed with it. I have checked the verticals on several benchmarks and it has always been within a tenth. In canopy the extra constellations seem to make a big difference with getting reliable (verifiable) fixes. If you are on a budget, you might consider just upgrading your rover to 4 constellations and using the ARDOT network. We are using the latest Geomax equipment so your results will vary.
Still waiting on a log in. Those guys at ARDOT seem to have taken up fishing in the local rivers, instead of answering their emails! (Grin)
