I'm interested in buying two Trimble 4600LS L1 GPS receivers, of this sort:
- the receiver works and is in cosmetically good condition,
- it is a dual-port model (i.e. 2 5-pin LEMO Input/Output ports)
- it is the later sub-watt variant (a label declaring this unit to be a "Sub Watt Technology" device appears near the serial number label)
- it is in the US or Canada.
I don't absolutely need cables, cases, etc. but will buy them bundled with the receivers if you want to sell them as well.
If you have one or more of these and are interested in selling, please contact me at kentmcmATswbellDOTnet.
Don't know if you have looked at eBay, but there appear to be a couple that might meet your criteria. Probably worth at least a few minutes of your time to check them out.
Have you checked the walls at [msg=179983]Cracker Barrel[/msg]? 😉
Lol

I actually didn't see any that I thought would be something I'd consider. Cosmetic condition is a major factor because if it looks like it's been through the wringer, it probably has been. The unit with the blue vinyl film sealing a cracked antenna housing was sub-watt, but had been drop tested one too many times for me.

What's "Cracker Barrel"? Is that like a low-concept version of Taco Bell in competition with "Sardines & Stuff" and "Vienna Sausage Deli"?

The eBay units seem to go for anywhere from $500 to $1500, which seems kind of high for superseded L1-only receivers. What features of this particular model draw you toward buying more of them?

I'd expect to pay less than $600 for a functional unit in good condition. The thing about the 4600LS is its form factor and durability. as well as having all the other pieces, including a TSC1 formerly owned by a fellow who shares your name, to use it.
I'm not sure at this point what I'll replace the 4600LS units with. The weak link in the prospective system purchase is the post-processing software. I think I know enough about TBC to want to avoid ever having to buy and use it again. Ditto with Leica or any company that basically just wants to rent the software on a yearly basis.

TBC is powerful and annoying at the same time.
I never thought I would say this...Topcon Tools is a cleaner and less aggravating baseline processor. GNSS Solutions is good too.
My main complaint is the piles of red flags TBC puts everywhere...mostly due to the way it works, not there is actually a problem.

I'm really just interested in baseline processing. I'm going to do the network adjustment in Star*Net regardless and can plot the network on top of aerial imagery in [REDACTED]. Having one piece of bloatware that attempts to do all sorts of stuff in demanding ways that involves a continuing training and software "maintenance" overhead is not a selling point.
I'm a bit surprised to hear that Topcon Tools is a decent baseline processor, but will keep an open mind on the subject.

As a result of this thread, I'm in contact with a seller who has some units that I can use for my purposes. This is another BeerConnect success story as far as I'm concerned, thanks all and thanks, Wendell. I'll send your commission on this in the form of a donation.

Are you serious? Cracker Barrel is probably one of the busiest places in the country this morning....

Oh, it's a chain of restaurants where barrel-shaped crackers eat? No wonder it's not on my radar. I avoid corporate franchise food as much as possible.

What? I am surrounded by satisfactory results daily. It is the dissonance between that and the reports from elsewhere that may prompt the occasional comment.
