Well, maybe not complete junk. I'm in want of a more or less complete total station that does not need to be in working condition. I'm not looking for something that's all busted up, but if the electronics don't work and the thing is a little scratched/dented, then that is fine.
If you have such a paperweight lying around that you don't want/need and you really don't care about getting much more money than shipping expenses for it, let me know. If you are within a half days drive of central Iowa, I'll even come get it and we can go for a beer.

Would an old transit work? They can be had for 300 bucks on ebay pretty often. Get lucky, and get one for 200.
