Were the ATX1230 network rovers all GNSS or did some only track GPS satellites? I'm trying to find an affordable used network rover...

For the Leica 1200 we have one that was made before GNSS was available, and one that is GNSS, so it depends on the year it was made. You can make the older ones work with GNSS, but you will need a new rover antenna, and I believe a new circuit board which Lecia would need to install, may have to pay to have some software updated as well.

So check the year the model you are looking at was made.

Thanks, Scott. That's kind of what I suspected. There are a few different vintages available. The ones that say GNSS are more expensive.

It seems to me I paid $5000 each for the base and the rover GNSS option (which was well worth it).

Dan,

As Scoot mentioned there were 3 different models and the original ATX1230 was GPS only. Everyone of the models can be used as a network rover. The RX1250 which would be used with ATX1230 receiever is running WIndows CE nad is a little easier to use when in a network rover environment.

Thanks. I am considering going this route for now. Although, my Leica rep tells me this antenna is an evolutionary dead end. If I upgrade to the viva collectors it won't be viable with that system, but right now I am running without GPS capability at all, and I think at this price point I can easily demonstrate the value it will add.

In your opinion is the GS08 with a CS10 viva a better option? It seems like the potential to integrate my robotics and gps together would be easier with this setup. I've used the CS15. I'm not sure how I will feel about not having a keypad.....actually I'm pretty sure I wont like it.

I bought the Leica RX1210T keyboard for the total station so I would have real alpha keys. It does make a difference.

You can always get an after market data collection that can run both GPS and robotics, that way your instruments do not have to be the same brand.

Dan,

This is my description of the GS08 Plus system.... we having several users who purchased one of these and are happy but the system matched what they needed in both price and capabilities

The GS08 is basically a Network Rover. Yes you can by a UHF radio cap to be able to use it with say a UHF base receiver locally on site. The GS08 will only work with the Lite version of Leica SmartWorx so you will not have every bell and whistle you saw on the CS15 if you were running the full version of SmartWorx. The technology in the RTK engine and the all other components are the same as the high-end Viva receivers. You still have all the feature such as the SmartCheck, SmartTrak, SamrtRTK, etc. As of the present you will only have GPS and GLONASS tracking. This may change but that is the structure on the GS08 Plus now. Personally I think with just these two constellation you are fine. You will only be able to use the CS10 data collector and yes it only has a numeric keypad. If you are planning to run a robot in future you could run both the Lite version (with Gs08) and Full version (with robot) to make sure you have all the bells and whistles when running the robot.

I am not putting down the GS08 Plus. It definitely has its place in the product basket needed for different customer needs. One of these is the cost of the system obviously. It is a solid product. I would look at the cost difference between the GS08 PLus system versus a GS14 system with a CS15. I personally do not like touch screen without a full keyboard.

I just bought Leica TS15 (Total Station) with CS15 controller which is GPS ready so I am going to upgrade the receiver to GS14, or GS12.

You could contact me directly at info@landsurveyingct.com if you still looking for network rover.
I am actually located in Norwalk CT so I could even show you the unit before you commit to buy it.

Thanks
Gregory Kogan P.L.S.
