I sporadically watch the selling prices for Wild guns on eBay, and have noticed that prices seem to be way down recently. Down enough that I just closed on a T2 for a shipped cost of $319.12:
It's been sullied by EDM mounts, but otherwise appears to be in good used condition.
A T1A just closed with a single bid of $200 (don't know about shipping cost on that one). It's clearly well-worn from field use, but looks to be complete and operational. If I didn't already have one, I'd have bid on that one, too.
I can't think of any reason that prices would be off like this, but they're clearly lower by a factor of 2 or so from those of recent years.
My new office has a large window overlooking the Willamette River. I'm thinking of picking one of these up for general viewing.
So you're the one that beat me on the T2. And I got the T1A,
How many do you have anyway?
I'm afraid to count.:-)
LOL
Out bid me too!
Seems the more you have the lower you bId

Or maybe you could bid on the Buff and Buff transit at the PLSO auction at the January PLSO COnference.;-)
Dave and Jim,
I am happy to know that the two theodolites went to good homes. I was suffering severe anxiety as these instruments closed for such small prices and was wondering who got them. I had to fight my strongly genetic pack rat/hoarder/collector instincts as I have recently purchased a T16, T2, and T3 for an average price of about $575 each shipped. Thanks Dave for the Kern RK Alidade and plane table mounting hardware. I really love those older instruments....

I am going to have to save up and find one myself. I would like a Wild T-16. I used one in college in my surveying classes. I would also like to find a K&E transit.
One of these days, when my wife and I build a new house, I am going to have a display case in my office where my collectible survey stuff will reside.
If you're interested, give me a call sometime. While I still buy, I'm also doing some selling. And anything I sell will be checked out, evaluated, calibration checked, probably adjusted, and properly reported prior to sale.
Maybe we should put our WISH list on BeerLeg

Thanks Dave.
I will definitely do that when I get a few more things taken care of. I just had to purchase a new survey truck, so what "extra" funds I had are going to outfit it for service.
You need a red mini to mount on that! ?

I'd like to remove the EDM mounts; I guess I'll have to find some screws to fill the holes. Anyone here ever done that? Tips on the process?
The simplest thing to do is just to use the same screws, but cut (or grind) them off by the thickness of the edm mount. They will be standard threads (probably English, but maybe metric) so you could go to your local hardware store and buy some if you don't like the first option.
But plugging the holes is a must do item to keep dust, dirt, and moisture out.
If you have a wish, send me a note.
I would never purchase a T2 that has had an edm mounted on it. Angles never seem to close very well after havin a edm mounted on it. I still have my T2 purchased in 1980 for $5200..Mint, like new condition and with a Wild Roleof Solar Prism, turn solars 3D and 3R to within + - 2-3". It's a beautiful gun.

I'd be wary of one that had the EDM mounted on the scope, but many years ago I used one that had the mounts on the standards, and they didn't seem to affect the angles.
I'll know more about the one I bought in about a week. 🙂
I have a pair of inverted image T-2 that I always planned to put on each side of the fire place mantel, with a twin dial calendar clock in the center. I made the choice to marry a wonderful woman 5 years ago and she had different decorating tastes. Her large landscape painting is centered on the mantel and I got to put a clock om each side of it. I ran out of Realestate for the theodolites.
I have a T-16 that I might be willing to part with if the price was right. As someone else said, my wife doesn't share my taste in mantle decorating.
