Been out of the game a long time, may be able to get back in. What in "YOUR" opinion is the best software to just plot deeds AND assign points to, load into a data collector and go and do recon?
Thanks in advance.

I would recommend Carlson Survey with Intellicad, you can plot your deeds and a whole lot more including SurvNet, Carlson Least square adjustment.
Ron
Thanks Ron, that or any CAD package is obviously the best way. I should have mentioned the person who will be doing this is tech challenged. He is 86 and wouldn't know how to access any CAD. Stand alone software is what I am trying to get, the simpler the better.:)
Depending on what DC you're using, you should be able to calc them up in it with no additional software.
Check out AGTCad.....

I have, it seems like as reasonable alternative as there is. Thanks for the heads up.
Robert
I keep an XP Pro around to use Carlson Surveyor1 dos program as my COGO program, easypeasy.
Maybe just use your DC?
What did you use in the past?
So it sounds like you are mainly concerned with ease of use and short learning curve rather than the difference between free vs. $1500?
There is a learning curve with ANY software.
I would suggest calling Carlson Software and describe your needs and situation. They have a routine called "Visual COGO" which is pretty simple.
I think you could utilize the software without understanding much of the CAD functions. You could pay someone to create some cheat sheet diagrams to help you accomplish simple tasks such as entering a traverse, entering a deed, uploading points to instrument...ect. At least that way, you might be able to re-sell the software later?
After you install the free trial version of the software, the folks at Carlson Software can actually operate your computer from their office and talk you through what would be required before you decided to buy.
I like the Cogo routine in Microsurvey.

Thanks Mr. Karoly, I like that also. When I help my 86 year old mentor and former employer get his business up to speed I have decided to make Micro Survey and their data collection the main stars of the show. AGT software has a cogo only program that my friend and mentor MAY be able to use, that remains to be seen. Thanks to all for your opinions, I have taken each and every one into account. By the way, data collection to this person is still a pad and pencil.;)

Shoot - has anybody gotten Peterson's software to work on modern operating systems? That's pretty simple and people that used it - loved it.
I second Traverse PC

I have spoken to a representative about this software, it is on the short list of stuff my friend will look at. Again, thanks for the heads up.

You mean Sierra Cybernetics?
The last time I used it was in a DOS window in Windows XP about ten years ago.

I read my latest XYHT Magazine today and there is an ad on page 12 for AGT, Inc. new version of ProCogo XL that may be worth looking into. They do not have a price shown, but apparently the info is available on their web site. One thing that is in their ad is that, it supports 9 different units of measurements, including meters, chains and varas. Also states that it will automatically draw deeds from a text file or from Microsoft Word. If I was looking for software do do what you want, I would go to their web site to view the demo.

Thanks Mr. Dowdell, someone in a previous response pointed me to that software in general, and I have spoken to "Alex" personally and he suggested that the Procogo would probably be the best of his solutions. Thanks for your response, it is also on the short list of things to look at.
