I don't know that I have seen the wooden unit in the middle that is vaguely reminiscent of a tiny tripod.?ÿ Any idea what it is?

I've not seen that either. I see no scales as it lies. It looks like the outer wings should fold out and around to 180 from the center piece. The clamp would then allow the device to be set at a length, such as finding the inside dimension of an opening.

That's a wild guess.

I wonder why 5140 upped his own bid?

I would gladly give $40 for that, 4 slide rules!

@dave-karoly 5140 put in a bid of $20 when the price was say $10 then someone bid $14 so 5140 was automatically at $15 and when someone bid $16 his went to $17 then 5312 bid $21 and 5140 shows up as his max bid of $20.

The item on the far left is simply an old wood ruler. You can still buys those new. The piano hinge folding rule, third from left, is more of a woodworking tool. It might go for $20 on it's own if sold as such. Which makes me think that maybe the tripod like thing isn't an engineering tool at all.?ÿ

Whoever gets the 4 slide rules can probably ebay them separately for $10 each and maybe make a buck or two on the deal.?ÿ

I think 3 of the 4 slide rules are the basic K+E Mannheim type. They have A B CI C D on the front and the slide can be flipped over the Sine reads against A (not ideal since itƒ??s a smaller scale) and Tan reads against D with a Log scale in the middles. If the slide is left in with B CI and C up there is an indicator line on the bottom so you pull it out to your desired angle then read the answer against the appropriate scale on the top side.

The 4th looks like it has more scales but it is missing the indicator (or cursor) which makes it not very useful.

My basic K+E Mannheim doesnƒ??t have a CI scale. I found one in the drawer of unloved old tools in the office which is just like mine except it has CI and a 10ƒ? ruler and on the bottle edge it has a 25cm strip. The ƒ??10-inchƒ? slide rules are actually 25cm index to index.

I also found a K+E Polyphase duplex slide rule in there. The cursor tends to move with the slide so itƒ??s a bit difficult to use. It has DF & CF plus Inverse scales and some log log scales. It still has the Sin scale reading against A. Tan only goes up to 45.

My Dietzgen Multiplex has more scales and a better layout, more log log scales, S ST T<45 and T>45.

I assume a K+E Decilon would be similar to my Dietzgen.

The tripod thingy looks like a leg from a military sketching set (small planetable.)

@norman-oklahoma?ÿ

Strong resemblance, but I can't see in the OP how there is a swivel to get the legs out of the same plane.

It's one leg of the tripod.?ÿ The outer pieces pivot on pins in the same plane as the rest of it and fasten to a head.
