I need some PDHs PDQ.
I need an ethics course, and a Mississippi standards course. Anybody got any quick hits for me?
Stephen
McKissock.
I think they advertise on here. This is where I get my ethics and Min. Standards for Mississippi. I think if you go through This website, Wendell May get a small percentage back.
Good luck.

If enough folks are interested, I'll do an Ethics Webinar. But be warned, my ethics classes are not the sort you can sleep through and collect your credit at the end. Be prepared to be challenged and to have to think.

Is there anything in your course that teaches you how to respond to arrogant twits?
Larry,
About that ethics webinar...
Couldn't I just send you a check and you give me the credit??

That is pretty funny. But... ah... no. Sorry.
There are places one can buy hours. I want nothing to do with that. Jimmy and some of the other board folks have been to my classes. They can tell you whether I do a good job or whether I am just an arrogant twit. 😉

Ya, Larry, they can just ask me. I'll tell them. (Nothing I wouldn't tell you to your face, though). ;o)

I think he just demonstrated in his 13:06 post.
I can attest to the fact that Larry is not an arrogant twit. Being intelligent and having an opinion doesn't mean you are arrogant. Larry is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.
I did MS ethics through McKissock for $20 and MS Standards through PDHonline.org for $89. I won't comment on the quality, but you can get it done quick that way.

Hey Larry - Do you know if a Webinar would meet the standard for the "live" portion of the TN requirements?
You are right. Larry is not an arrogant sort at all. Compared to me, I'd say he's an extrovert where I consider myself an introvert. He has the "gift of gab" on the first order. We've known each other for many years now. I even did a class for him myself (no, my signature is not for sale on PDH certs). My class was on the Carlson CE data collector. I did the morning class and Larry did the afternoon class. I wasn't planning on getting into the field-to-finish stuff but I was running out material so I did it on the fly. It turned out being a great segway into Larry's afternoon session.
We went out for lunch at a local Wendy's (I think). I swear within about 30 seconds Larry had the girl behind the counter eating out of his hand. It was all about her necklace. He just gave her compliments and it made her day. We sat down at a booth to eat and he says something like "did you see what just happened". I replied with something like "yeah, you just made that girl's month!". The girl lit up like a Christmas tree.
Larry is good people and I would go to bat for him anyday without hesitation.

Good question Mr. Snoop. Wish I had a good answer.
If you look at the intent behind why video taped presentations count as 1/4th the credit of a live presentation I think yes. Their logic (nearly as I can tell) was that the student has no chance for interaction with the instructor on a video. The lines of communication are one direction only. I see that point and understand it.
With a Webinar you can ask questions and the instructor can respond during the presentation. That seems to me to be the same as live without the travel.
But I also know Tennessee has some mighty odd rules about approving courses. The webinar will not be pre-approved because it takes months and months to get a course approved. Plus, when you submit a course for approval you must indicate the location of the instructor and the students on the application. (Yes, right down to the city and the name of the building within the city where the class will be taught.)
Because of the uncertainty associated with Webinars, and because I do not like to give folks incorrect answers, about a year ago we asked the TN Board to clarify how they would view webinars. Are they to be counted as 1/4th the regular credit, or will they be counted like a live presentation? The answer we got was that they would consider their position and let us know. To date, we have been told nothing about which position they will take.
I know that leaves us Professionals in a tough spot but that is the best I can do for now. If you get a chance to talk to members of any licensing board (TN or any other state) you might encourage them to 1) let you know how they want you to count webinars and 2) let them know how you think they should count.

I should be so lucky. I just took 2 hrs of KS standards. Only one available in time. $70. Texas mandates, starting this year, 4 hours of Standards or 4 hours of ethics plus eight hours of other stuff. All of which has to be pre-approved.
Just a question for the masses. Does attending the chapter/county monthly meetings of your state PLS society count for PDH's?
It does in NV, and AZ is going that route once it is required. By virtue of being active in your state society, you can gain virtually all the PDH's you need. The bonus is that it costs exactly zero $$ and you also maintain networking with your peers. There are many more benefits to that entire approach.
Just food for thought and not intended as a hijack.
The ASPLS Bimingham chapter gets one hour per meeting. By attending all meetings, we can earn 10 credits annually, but must have 15. Even without the credits, the meetings are worth attending.
The UCLS (Utah) set up their continuing education using that model as well. Credit for membership in an association (national or state) as well as for active participation on a committee. Attendance of the monthly luncheons are also credited. There is a maximum number of credits you can receive as well as carry over to the next biennial renewal. It definitely encourages participation.
