I was recently traveling in Kauai where I had the great pleasure of meeting our good friend Yswami. The man is a prince. While traveling around the island I was drawn to a small antique store that specialized in old maps. Being a surveyor there was no way that my curiosity would not be satisfied. I asked the owner if she had any items relating to Alaska and Captain Cook and his voyages, which I've always had a fascination with. I live at the head of Cook Inlet and Captain Cook discovered (from a western perspective) and died in Hawaii. The proprietor produced a number of original lithographs from several additions of Cook's original atlas's, English, French and Russian versions. The paper looked right for the time period and I ended up purchasing two of the prints from her for more than I care to admit, but she had a number of others that I'm very interested in. I'm posting this in hopes that someone more educated than myself can point me in the direction of placing a value on some of these old lithographs. I'm not a collector and purchased the two not as an investment but for their aesthetic appeal to me, but she has a number of others that I'm hoping to bundle together into a deal. Below is a picture of one of the prints and below that a link to some information on the atlas's that I found on the web. Any help in obtaining more information would be appreciated. Feel free to contact me in the email in my profile. I can direct you to the shop's website if you so desire.

Thank you in advance.

The one I purchased is from the English version of the Atlas and was told it was from the first addition, but I'm unable to verify that.

Act II: The Third Voyage

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

Cool Story Williwaw, I love old maps, too.

Over in spledeus's neighborhood, Chatham MA there is a store, Maps of Antiquity, whose owner came and talked to our Surveying chapter once, a few years ago.

Maps of Antiquity

Maybe it 's worthwhile writing him and asking. Use my name, if it helps 🙂 or the Mass. Assoc. of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers, Cape Cod Chapter.

Hi name is Bob Zaremba. Nice guy and very knowledgeable. He helped us restore an 1856 Atlas of Barnstable County. I drive by his shop at least twice a day.
