The author is a Raw Vegan, also a neighbor and friend.
She has lots of dogs, goats, and horses... so there are bound to be lots of bugs.
Good advice here, it is worth the effort to try a more healthy solution...

Avon has a lotion called "Skin so Soft" that works also. Not sure how natural it is.

Mosquitoes don't bother me too much in our area. It's the chiggers. Whew.

Natural Mosquito Repellant - Garlic

The problem I always have with applying anything to my skin was the sweating head. Whatever you put on your forehead or face somehow finds its way into your eyes and mouth. ICK!!

That's why I always stuck to consumption of large quantities of garlic, on a regular basis. A cluster a week, maybe more, cooked in a variety of ways. Those bastards won't mess with you.

I've been lucky though, in that all my gal pals liked garlic to. Don't know about the other people in the room...

Another preventative measure is high doses of vitiman B6. For whatever reason, bugs don't like that. It's just that garlic is cheaper, likely better for you, and tastes good.

the old timers in south alabama would bake sulfur powder into their sweets to keep the critters away. brownines cover the sulfur well from what i have heard.

i've also head georgia swamp boys talking about drinking a cap full of cider vinegar once a day to keep the mosquitoes and chiggers away.

Flowers of sulfur mixed with baby oil and applied to the tops of your boots and socks is the best thing I've found for chiggers. Now if you squat or sit you risk exposure, but if just walking through the woods it is great protection.

Natural Mosquito Repellant (almost natural ...)

I can't stand to gargle with any flavor of Listerine, but that's what my dentist gives me in sample bottles every time I go for a cleaning or checkup. When I put the Listerine into spray bottles, with a few squirts it keeps mosquitos away from my back yard for several hours.

Spray your your hat and collar liberally with DEET. that way you don't need to apply it to your face.

I hadn't heard of the B6 thing before. I'll try that. My gut can handle only so much garlic, which doesn't seem to be enough to repel skeeters.
