I am number 5 of 5.
There is all sorts of stuff on the internet about the pros and cons of birth position. Of course I'm a shining example of the youngest ha ha.
My mother is the oldest of three girls. My Dad was the oldest of two boys except his Mother (the oldest of four except for a sister who died at two weeks old in 1900) adopted a nephew born out of wedlock to the youngest sister (my Aunt Sally who I personally knew).
I'm third out of six.
Fifth out of eight.
I have an older sister (by eleven months) who was an only child.
For eleven months? :-S
3rd of 6.

A lot of middle children.
Irish twins.
My coworker is an Irish Twin. His brother is ten months younger.
I'm the oldest in my family. In fact, I'm the oldest among all my cousins on both my mothers and my fathers side. For both of their marriages.
Ah - OK. Likely no breast feeding - natural birth control ...
From my mom I am 4 of 8.
From dad I am 1 of 2.
So basically I'm the oldest middle child.
1 of 1. I do have step-siblings, but gained them after I was out of the house.

I have read the Birth Order Book By Dr. Kevin Lehman. There is alot to the birth order. Occasionally, somebody jumps the fence, and does not follow the birth order, but usually not.
I'm the 2nd of 3 boys, and I have 2 older 1/2 sisters.
Interesting stuff.

And, to really make it confusing, in some birth order books I am considered an only child, as is my sister. We are a bit more than six and half years apart. Some authors say that makes both of us only children. I get that. Her experiences and mine were very different during our childhoods. Most of the time, she thinks she's an only child.
Checking back to prior generations it is a hodgepodge from first to last and middle and only. Dad was an only child. Mom was the last of three. Both grandmothers were the oldest of three with both younger siblings being boys. Both grandfathers were in the middle...one of three and one of eight.
