Halloween was like late summer temps. Kids were out and it was very comfortable for them, then a couple of days later the weather turned. I had a drive to the fall technical conference and was stuck in the motel for the two days, didn't want to deal with the snow and ice to drive around town, so stayed in for the duration. And it hasn't let up. Over a foot of snow has fallen on the driveway and today it was double degits below 0,,,,,-10F on my display driving to the office. Two weeks of deep winter nasty weather and it's not even Thanksgiving,,,,,,ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

We haven't had any that needed shoveling here yet, although it's snowed on several days.

When shoveling I always tell myself it's the price I pay for not dealing with scorpions, copperheads, alligators, pythons, kudzu, and several other southern plagues.

Monday we had a little bit for the first time this year.?ÿ Maybe one-quarter inch (0.02' for some).?ÿ All gone shortly after the sun came out.

I was reminded 0f what it is like driving in blowing snow with headlights on at 65 mph.

However, right now it is 24 F with a feels like of 15 F.?ÿ Might warm up all of five degrees by mid-afternoon.

I'll take the cold but this freezing ice on everything is miserable.

The weather in Puyallup is generally pretty mild. Never too hot; never too cold. Today started out at 23f. The crews were all bundled up; Tuques; mittens that turn into fingerless gloves; scarfs; warm coats...

Should make it to almost 50f; all that gear will be off by noon. It's like this, most of the winter. If it does snow, it will be gone within 2-3 days. Although I did see it last for over a week once.

But don't tell anyone; it's a secret. The place will be overrun, if anyone finds out!

Was living in the Snow Belt adjacent to Lake Michigan in southwest Michigan years ago.?ÿ One Halloween we had accumulated so much snow in the subdivisions that the snow was plowed up about six to eight feet high along the curbs.?ÿ The poor little kids had to go up a sidewalk, then walk out to traipse down the street, then up the next sidewalk to get to the next front door.?ÿ Normally, they would have gone from front door to front door across the lawns.?ÿ And, it was damn cold.?ÿ Ballerinas and princesses just don't look the same with a big, heavy coat fastened up.

My last two trips to Fla didn't exactly feel warm. I was in the Anna Maria Island area and it was in the low 30's and windy, crashing waves at the beach, people (not me) in down coats, snowing in Pennsacola the day I left. Then I went to Orlando and it was a bit warmer but everyone from the southern places looked like Jack London characters walking around the kingdom (not me of course, didn't feet too bad in the 40s and 50s).?ÿ

My last trip to Florida all I packed were shorts and flip flops, and it froze nearly every night.
