There's a used book store about 2 or 3 blocks behind where the photographer is standing that ended up with Roy Minnick's private book collection. Probably pretty well picked over by now, but there may be a few survey treasures still there. Owners (Wolff & Linda) are very nice folks and willing to deal if you buy several books.
I spent some time there in 1984(ish).
Nice area, LOTS of Mineral Surveys round those parts...

I was up in that town about a year or so ago. Had to stop at the County Surveyor's office to get some copies of two subdivision maps for the resort up at the east end of the County. It was a Friday and the entire county building was pretty quiet. The person on duty when I came in was a bit quiet and reserved as he explained to me what the pricing was for full-sized copies and how he had to have cash or check. So I said, "No problems. If you can point me at the nearest ATM machine, I'll go get the cash and you'll have time to make those prints." He explained that the nearest bank was 3 blocks up the street and he would get the copies for me when I got back. Nice place to visit. Very picturesque.
Perhaps not surprisingly I have passed many an evening in the bar at the National. As I recall, there were one or two meetings of the Mother Lode Chapter of CLSA held there. Also, up the street and not far from the bookstore that Evan mentioned was a resturant that served breakfast at 2:00 am.
I can guess the name of the company you worked for if you give me three chances :). It's either B.H., T&A or W, right?
