If you really want heads to explode you have to use all three. There, their, they're
While driving in my neighborhood yesterday, I ran across a sandwich board sign sitting on the sidewalk. It reminds me of the TV wonder gadgets for $19.99 where you get a second gadget free, just pay a separate fee.

I was actually talking to my son on the phone when I read this post and asked him if he had ever been there. That was when he related his description. I later looked at it on GE and I guess it fits.
He said in the last few years they (feds) have been squeezing the 4-wheelers out of government lands in the desert. He hasn't been there(Hope) in a couple of years.
This sign has been here for at least 10 years. The top one is a circular questionnaire, catch-22, despite someone's attempt to fix it.

Don't you mean theiyr're?
I've been through Beaumont, and Banning.
My condolences.
What are we waiting for, assembled in the forum?
?ÿ
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ The barbarians are due here today.
?ÿ?ÿ
Why isn??t anything happening in the senate?
Why do the senators sit there without legislating?
?ÿ
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ Because the barbarians are coming today.
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ What laws can the senators make now?
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ Once the barbarians are here, they??ll do the legislating.
?ÿ
?ÿ
Why did our emperor get up so early,
and why is he sitting at the city??s main gate
on his throne, in state, wearing the crown?
?ÿ
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ Because the barbarians are coming today
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ and the emperor is waiting to receive their leader.
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ He has even prepared a scroll to give him,
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ replete with titles, with imposing names.
?ÿ
?ÿ
Why have our two consuls and praetors come out today
wearing their embroidered, their scarlet togas?
Why have they put on bracelets with so many amethysts,
and rings sparkling with magnificent emeralds?
Why are they carrying elegant canes
beautifully worked in silver and gold?
?ÿ
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ Because the barbarians are coming today
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ and things like that dazzle the barbarians.
?ÿ
?ÿ
Why don??t our distinguished orators come forward as usual
to make their speeches, say what they have to say?
?ÿ
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ Because the barbarians are coming today
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ and they??re bored by rhetoric and public speaking.
?ÿ
?ÿ
Why this sudden restlessness, this confusion?
(How serious people??s faces have become.)
Why are the streets and squares emptying so rapidly,
everyone going home so lost in thought?
?ÿ
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ Because night has fallen and the barbarians have not come.
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ And some who have just returned from the border say
?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ there are no barbarians any longer.
?ÿ
?ÿ
And now, what??s going to happen to us without barbarians?
They were, those people, a kind of solution.?ÿ

this one is striking simply for the fact that you'd think everyone in new mexico would know the state motto by heart.
If you follow the media news I'm sure you've heard about the folks that got busted for bribing their kids' way into supposedly 'top-notch' schools.?ÿ My first instinct was "what does that teach the child?"....but I digress.
As reprehensible as that all sounds, I believe it's an indication of a systemic flaw in our society.?ÿ While we may applaud those in our society that achieve through hard work; our heroes are the rule-breakers.?ÿ Snot-nosed high school dropouts with electric guitars can become icons with wealth beyond measure.?ÿ Society can elevate a common criminal to "Robin Hood" hero status in a heartbeat.
While on the surface we pretend to teach our children the good morals and ethics of our societal system; we unknowingly undermine that by simply showing them that "real" success comes from elsewhere.?ÿ Our society seems to believe achieving within the system is mediocre, but beating the system is the real pinnacle of success.
It wouldn't surprise me if all these folks get off with just a slap on the wrist...I understand 'justice' can be had for a price too.
The barbarians have truly won.

Without Alumni support, every school would be a drag.
I've heard/viewed some of the synopses of this news event.
There are some mail fraud charges for some but not sure about the other charges.?ÿ This is apparently a situation where the 1%ers have applied their knowledge and capital to cheat the system. All are capitalists and know how to work the system. I imagine the parents will try to cop pleas for lesser sentences and/or fines. They will hire the most expensive attorneys who will know how to maneuver through the system.?ÿ The feds will most likely go after the school officials and the SAT administrators rather than the parents. The public universities will be proactive in compliance while the private universities will neatly bury their problems.?ÿ The focal target will be the guy who devised the whole scam and his agents.?ÿ
This had nothing to do with ethics but is Capitalism 101

I followed your?ÿ Wikipedia hyperlink.
So Alger was admitted to Harvard because his father was a well known Unitarian minister. He graduates and his father then had him enter the family business as a minister of his own church.
He then leaves under very serious pedophilia charges. He doesn't refute the accusations but acknowledged them. He becomes a successful serial writer about poor boys who depend on older weathier men for moral guidance that lift them from poverty.
He creates this fiction of the Horatio Alger myth.
Yeah, ol' Horiatio was booted out of our local UU church.?ÿ I am not a member but have attended functions there.?ÿ His name is still listed as a "past Minister."
?ÿ
?ÿ
Like many prominent people, Alger had some dark aspects to his life.
What he is most remembered for are many novels where success comes "through hard work, determination, courage, and honesty. "?ÿ
Lack of promotion of those values in the present day seemed to be relevant to Paden's post.
