I'm stumped, so I'm turning to the fount of broad-based knowledge. This goes back decades so maybe they don't make them anymore. This is way before laptops and apps.
An organizer for students, holding a book or two, pens, pencils, and notebooks, made of leather or plastic, roughly 12" x 18", zipper on the top, right, and bottom so it opens flat on a desk. What is it called?
Zippered Binder and Zippered Notebook both returned images from Google of what I believe you are describing.

We used to carry a book satchel that was much like you are describing. I remember seeing some that zippered around three sides, but we didn't use them as a portfolio. We only carried them as a satchel.
