There was a young couple, Staci and Greg, among my friends years ago that were definitely the "power" couple.?ÿ They both were at the top of their field.?ÿ He was a CE and she sold real estate.?ÿ Their wedding was the best most lavish of any of the rest of us.?ÿ They seemed to have something special between them that a lot us secretly admired.?ÿ We all saw and envied their most assuredly bright future.?ÿ?ÿ
Of course they had to custom build a house after the nuptials, no spec home would do.?ÿ The topic of conversation at get-togethers for the next six months was of house plans and layouts.?ÿ Having friends like that allowed the rest of us to enjoy their perfect life vicariously.?ÿ
Soon construction on the house began and they were busy with their decorating choices.?ÿ The house was virtually complete when we all caught wind of trouble in paradise.?ÿ Staci and Greg were actually at odds about the selection of ceramic tile in the entryway.?ÿ Staci had, with Greg's blessing, originally picked out what she wanted.?ÿ Greg saw it as it was delivered and hated it.?ÿ He secretly had it swapped for something more to his liking thinking Staci wouldn't notice.?ÿ
She did.?ÿ And that small crack of a disagreement groaned and grew to a large crevasse.?ÿ Greg would not allow "those hideous" tiles in his house.?ÿ Staci would not stand for his substitution and felt indignant her husband had disregarded her wishes.
Their disagreement grew into a "war of the roses".?ÿ Long story short, the house was never occupied by either.?ÿ The massive bills they incurred during construction were fodder for a horrible divorce.?ÿ They both wound up financially ruined.
They both childishly demanded have their "perfect" way.?ÿ It was such a shame they allowed all the unnecessary events to play out because neither was willing to compromise.?ÿ Sometimes people are their own worst enemies.?ÿ
Sticking to your guns will ultimately hurt the children; it was probably for the best...
Sounds like a current events parable, but if so this one went over my head. Will think more about it.
this one went over my head
Mine too:

They could've just went with hardwood floors...
?ÿ
?ÿ
That reminded me of a story from an attorney giving a presentation to a group of surveyors.?ÿ It was a warning that things are not truly complete until they are COMPLETE.?ÿ His story involved a couple with children and numerous valuable items.?ÿ It was one of the easiest divorces imaginable.?ÿ They had agreed on the children, bank accounts, real estate, etc.?ÿ They were down to the final day of agreeing to split various minor household items.?ÿ Two candlestick holders that had been purchased years earlier at Wal Mart were set out.?ÿ They both wanted them.?ÿ No compromise could be negotiated.?ÿ The realization that their former life was really coming to an end must not have seemed real until they were this close to done.?ÿ Both sides blew up.?ÿ Everything negotiated up to that point was now void.?ÿ It was something like two years later before they were legally divorced.?ÿ In the meantime they had spent a fortune on attorneys and were both extremely bitter.
Unfortunate circumstances and one which reminded me of my divorce 16 years ago.?ÿ I was pretty much willing to let most everything go as I cared more about my sanity than most of the materials items.?ÿ Besides she tore up all the family photos and gave away anything she was felt was a personal item of mine behind my back.?ÿ In your example @paden, I would had just agreed to whatever tile she wanted and cared less.?ÿ
My wife and I have been through 3 major and 1 minor (a bathroom) remodels in 26 years of marriage.?ÿ I insisted on?ÿ certain features each time, but I let her choose everything that pertained to decor.?ÿ That stuff isn't important to me -- I hate even looking at choices -- but it is to her, so it only made sense.?ÿ So far, so good...
Unfortunate ...
Besides she tore up all the family photos and gave away anything she was felt was a personal item of mine behind my back.?ÿ?ÿ
God.?ÿ That's horrible.?ÿ I'm sorry you?ÿ had to experience that.
I had an acrimonious divorce but not like that. OOF!

Man you've live some serious life.
?ÿ
Thanks always for sharing.

I think I've always done a decent job of paying attention to a woman's disposition, but as I've gotten older it's steadily moved higher and higher on the list.?ÿ I think most people enjoy being around others who can take the initiative sometimes and share the load of a relationship that way, but it also seems to be a good way to suddenly find yourself paired up with a "strong personality" who can become a nightmare to deal with.
Life is just too short to put up with difficult people, imo.
Alas, creativity rarely runs with organization...I've started "THE" collection several times only to get distracted by life.?ÿ I suffer from "ADD-OLSS".?ÿ That stands for Attention Deficit Disord...Oh Look! Something Shiny!?ÿ
Sounds like a current events parable, but if so this one went over my head. Will think more about it.
I can understand. Bill you are confusing Unc's post with the Kim Kardashian/Pete Davidson/Kanye West fiasco perpetually in progress. ?????ÿ
I??d say if they got divorced over tile in the entry way they were going to end up divorced not matter what. Me and my wife hardly ever argue but one of the worse was over hanging a picture. ?ÿIt was a large fairly heavy one over our bed. ?ÿI found the studs and realized the picture would be almost perfectly centered over our bed if I anchored it in the studs. ?ÿIt would be about a couple of inches off though. ?ÿMy wife wanted it centered and I didn??t want the large picture hanging over our heads like a guillotine from drywall hangers. ?ÿThe picture got hung up about three months later in a different room. ???? ?ÿ
Our daughter went through a private school mostly in the 1990s. A lot of wealthy families.
Wealth was a predictor of divorce. Most of them were split up by 8th grade graduation. A few stayed married, big age difference or already second marriage.
The picture hanging problem might have been solved if it was suspended on wire by using a drywall hanger on one side for positioning with two stud fasteners, the one near the drywall fastener being a backup.
Sounds familiar.?ÿ
Glad I haven't gone through it.?ÿ
Seven years and one month ago we were seconds away from opening the door to leave to attend the funeral for my wife's father.?ÿ We both happened to be looking in the direction of a large painting.?ÿ It fell straight down to the floor.?ÿ About a foot of it was still visible above the top of the couch.?ÿ It has not been touched since that moment.
My daughter also attended private school until college. I always thought the super rich were smart???
I saw two of her friends parents divorce. Both were because of the husbands "finding" their trophy wife. The first wives made out ok financially. But after the husbands new wives were in place one divorced after 7 months and the other husband just vanished (no criminal activity he just "ran away") ?????ÿ
