Somebody Stole my Septic Tank

Well winter is around the corner, so I drove up to my travel trailer on the river to bring it back to town for the winter. The little town next to my lot is just finishing installing a new sewer system. They've been adding additional taxes on me for the last 5 years to help pay for the sewer system. Then last month they wrote me a letter saying I didn't have a permanent structure on my lot so I couldn't hook up to their sewer. No big deal since I had a septic system I could dump my Trailer's holding tank into.
Well I pulled my trailer up to where the septic tank was and couldn't find the inlet pipe. Got my shovel out and dig around trying to find the inlet pipe. Two hours later and a 3 foot deep hole dug where the septic tank was. Guess what? There's no tank at all there anymore. The tank has been surgically removed and neatly covered with soil where it once was.
How can they come on to private property and remove your septic tank with absolutely no notification at all?
Who would you call? The Sheriff, the Contractor, the Sewer District, a Lawyer?
I wish I had a picture of my face when I realized my septic tank was stolen! The tank was on the property when I bought the lot 30 years ago. I am probably in the Flood Plain, but the tank was there before FEMA delineated the boundary. The County Sanitation Department doesn't have any record back that far that they can find.
Asking around to the neighbors and they are all unaware there was a plan to remove old septic tanks. I doubt you could install a septic tank in my area with today's requirements. Rumor is they are disabling all they tanks in the area to force everyone onto the new sewer system and collect the $30 monthly sewer fee.

All kinds of ideas of what to say on this thread, come to mind. Ones that possibly would get this thread deleted. No no don't want to do that.
So, let's just say that perhaps you should find a new place to poop. As your old one appears to have migrated. It could be a political issue. Many times, there are old laws, ALLOWING outhouses. And, as indoor plumbing became more popular, they FORGOT to delete the laws allowing them.
So, put you a nice old outhouse out there...
This is a very moving subject... Mmm

There is no end to what municiple areas will go to and obtain victims to place on list for meter charges.
Locally are the water police that track federal backed loans and force water well owners to connect residences to public supply.

Are you saying that the local government actually entered your property without notification and removed a functioning septic tank?
:scream:

Just pull up next to some convenient storm sewer inlet and leave them a deposit.

This town doesn't have storm sewers or I would. There is only one paved road.

I would start with a call to the county sanitarian. Best of luck.

I'm sure you will find out who stole your septic tank this next week when the invoice for its removal arrives in the mail.

That's what I thought, you will get billed. BUT, they should have notified you first. Maybe they posted public notice and you didn't see it. If they actually trespassed without authority they should be called to the carpet.

Years ago there was a deal on underground fuel tanks. I had one on the farm. I never reported it but I did remove it.

It is and I did call the Sanitarian. They said there were no records on the property. Seeing that the system was put in over 40 years ago I wouldn't expect there to be any.

Is it possible that Joe Dirt thought it was an Atom Bomb?
I would start looking for Mullet Hair suspects with you old tank tied to the roof like a Christmas Tree.

Check with a nearby hog farmer. Ask to borrow his "honey wagon" for a drive-by spraying of city hall.

If you truly believe that then you need to contact an attorney. Trespassing and property theft come to mind...

Don't suppose you filed a police report?
Around a here I'd have to pay someone big money to dig up and remove a 40 year old septic tank.

Nope, there is a perfect rectangle of fresh dirt where the tank use to be.
