Has anybody here had this inflammation disorder? If so, did you get treatment (cortisone steroids/pain killers)? I think I know somebody that has it and wanted to know more about it.

Have never heard of it. Sounds absolutely horrible.

I don't, but it was a possibility I might be a sufferer, due to muscle stiffness.
I didn't like the sound of it.
I had tests and negative.
I'd need positive tests to rule it in or out.
Obviously I have no idea of case in question but I'm always wary of "diagnosis on/by possibilities". I like to see some truth in them.

Yes I agree - doc. should diagnose and rule other things out.
Trouble is getting someone to go down that path, when they don't necessarily have good insurance and are stubborn as a horse.

Prednisone treatment, a steroid, usually fixes most issues within 3yrs according to some sources.

I have many of the symptoms in regard to what they say about the location of pain.

Weight loss and depression has not set in.

Arthritis in most of my body is my current ailment.

His started in his groin, like a pulled muscle, then moved up to his shoulders the next day.
Sounds like it is difficult to get up in the mornings because of the pain.
This was the only thing I could come up with.

It sounded like it started right after a grueling 6 mile backpacking trip.

If those symptoms are accompanied by any shortness of breath or fatigue call 911. Thrombosis and clotting can be a factor after some serious exertion. A clot migrating to the lungs is called a pulmonary embolism and can be fatal if untreated. My suggestion is to seek medical attention.

It sounds like maybe a tick borne disease. If he had a tick on him for a period of time it can transmit a number of diseases like Lyme. After a while it is difficult with a simple blood test to determine the cause once the symptoms start appearing .

Your acquaintance wants information about this from a surveyors forum? While I think this is the best survey site in the world I don't think I will seek out medical advice here...

Seeking medical advice from surveyors doesn't really look good on paper. But seeking information from a bunch of old grey haired guys the same age is invaluable.

I've outlived two primary care physicians. My present GP is forty-something year old. If I tell him something hurts, he has to look it up. If I say something hurts here on the message board, there's at least three other old farts that have had the same pain.

I agree. I find chill pills help me a lot when I am bothered by other posts on the message board.

Really? You think I have an acquaintance that asked me to log in here and try to get them some medical advice?

700,000 people a year get the condition I asked about. Figured most of you are cranky old farts and have seen it all. Maybe someone may be able to relate how long it took them to get over it, how long it took to get diagnosed, what level of steroid they had to take...ect.

I guess I was only half right.

Now you have me thinking...
Is advising someone on a surveying forum, not to seek medical advice on a surveying forum, considered giving medical advice on a surveying forum?

Of course, which is why I don't recommend it!

I guess you folks have forgotten about the guy who wholeheartedly recommended taking fatal doses of an over the counter drug...

Was that part of the annual Darwin award show?

Jim, the important difference is that I didn't ask for advice. Just trying to have a discussion
I think the liability for litigation is pretty low so far.

PS That was pretty funny - I thought.
