The guy wanting a root beer is me. "Do you have our rewards plan?" No.?ÿ "Would you like to get signed up today?" No.?ÿ All I want is a small diet root beer. "For only forty cents more we will give you a free order of fries if you sign up for our rewards program today."?ÿ Goodbye.

I was in Best Buy the other day for the first time in a couple years. To get help from the sales staff you are now supposed to scan a bar code using your phone and they will text you when it is your turn.

I had forgotten my phone. I feel old and the world is rapidly becoming unrecognizable.

I've found that employees will come running if you start shouting expletives at the top of your lungs.

Try it.?ÿ It will make you feel better no matter whether they have what you need or not.

Youngest daughter worked in a Best Buy in Arkiesaw about 20 years ago.?ÿ Some of the clientele didn't have a phone in their house, let alone one in their pocket.?ÿ But, the one thing they did have was money.?ÿ Real green stuff.?ÿ They didn't go to town very often, but when they did...................Katie, bar the door!

That's me.?ÿ Only in the dark.?ÿ Attempting to do the little swipe to get to the view offering the flashlight icon on my phone.?ÿ It doesn't even have to be dark.?ÿ It still takes a couple of attempts.

Went and got a new blazer at JC Penny (yep JC Penny because that is as fancy as I get) just before this years conference because the cuffs on my other one were getting rough looking.?ÿ Here is how it went:

Find a jacket that fits and the power went out - of course there is no checking out with no power.?ÿ Okay, I can buy that issue based on ease of inventory tracking and of course the register and scanner won't work.

Wait in the store for a few minutes and the power is back on.

Wait in line while a lady argues with the only person running a register over a return and some "rewards" points she is going to lose based on the return - not actual money, but rewards points that usually amount to 1/1,000,000,000 of a cent for every $1,000 spent.

Finally get to check out and am asked no fewer than three times if I want to sign up for and use a JC Penny credit card (this is the first time I've been in JC Penny in probably 10 years).?ÿ I - first declined, next declined and explained that I rarely shop in JC Penny so it wouldn't be worth my time to fill out an application, and finally declined and explained that although I understand she is forced to repeatedly ask that question I would really just like to purchase the jacket that she has already rang up and would she please proceed with that transaction instead of continuing to bother me about a card I am not interested in.

Don't even get me started on grocery stores and reward cards!?ÿ Just charge everyone the same fair price because your loyal rewards customers have every other stores reward card in their possession and are NOT shopping solely at your store for a reward point.

?ÿ

@jon-payne?ÿ

Reminds me of a long time ago at a store 120 miles from my house where they insisted I give them my zip code for some insane reason.?ÿ Gave the guy a $10.00 bill to cover a purchase with tax of about $9.80.?ÿ I insisted that I would not give him my zip code.?ÿ He said he couldn't take my money without giving him my zip code although I assured him I would probably never be in this store again in my lifetime.?ÿ I finally relented and gave him a string of five numbers that is probably a zip code SOMEWHERE.

@bill93 Well when you break out greenbacks and people look at you funny times have changed. I have my snuff habit and i go to one place and get it. It cost me more but i can hand the lady cash and she gives back correct change from the cash register drawer thatƒ??s always open. She then rings it up as we chat and she asked how my farm is doing how my wife and girls are doing. I ask her about her mom we chat for a bit all the retirees come in and out and they always asking how i am doing. I love country stores and just good people. The kind of place that even when one real old timer sais so. Can you grab me a bag of dog food and set it on the tailgate so i can pay the lady. I say yes sir will do. That same man will stop once in a while when i am bailing hay. Just sit wave and watch. He has more work under his belt than i ever could in two lifetimes. He drives 15mph everywhere lol. But he is salt of the earth type fella.

@olemanriver?ÿ

I love those guys...............and am rapidly becoming one of them.?ÿ We lost several of our true old-timers this past year at 89,91,91, 95 and almost 101.?ÿ The stories they could tell were priceless to me.

Earlier today I was in the office of another surveyor when his brother came in.?ÿ Hadn't seen this brother in nearly 30 years but knew him immediately.?ÿ I called him by his nickname and he just kept looking at me trying to figure out who the heck I was.?ÿ Told him a couple of things and then he remembered.?ÿ Little things like dancing with the same women 35 years ago.

Anyway he had come in to ask about a certain USGS map that he wanted to know the name of so he could sort through his collection of them to find the location of an Indian Treaty Line he knew was somewhere on one of them.?ÿ Next thing you know we are swapping stories on the history of his home county.?ÿ He was amazed to learn that I knew so much but hadn't lived in that county since 1980.?ÿ I now have a little chore to find where I had read a certain piece of information relating to a post office established in the 1850's somewhere close to where he was raised.?ÿ He wants to see it in black and white, as they say.

Listening to Conan Oƒ??Brien radio today and heard a comedian tell this one.?ÿ

Was checking out of store, handed the clerk a 50 cent coupon and an American Express card for the rest. Clerk asked for some identification and he asked why. Clerk said he just needed to be sure card wasnƒ??t stolen. He said I just handed you a coupon, you think I stole this card and felt bad about it so Iƒ??m trying to save the victim 50 cents?

Wow! Best Penrose Triangle I've ever seen.?ÿ You can make physical objects that photograph like this from one point of view, but not from other points.
