Snow Started at Port Newark at about 7:15 AM this morning. Weather reports were that it would initially be rain and then a mix and then later all snow. But it is now all snow.
The port has 2 tenant that import road salt from Soth Amderica, Brazil I believe, so we have several very large stockpiles and when the dump trucks leave after being loaded it spills on the streets provideing free salting service to many areas at the facility.
After work yesterday I stopped at my local supermarket but did not park as the lot was nearly full. This lot is never full. The gas lines were evident in a few stations as well. Panic like you cannot believe.
We will probably leave early as to get out of traffic before it gets to hairy in the roads.
Preidicitons for the NYC metro area vary from 10" to 18" so there sre a lot of variables at work.
Stay safe!
Snow just started here near Springfield, MA on the CT/MA line. They are telling us to expect 12" - 18" , more in the hills and farther east (96 miles to Boston). Everything is shut down and I guess we are as ready as we can be.
And I just got back from Florida last night, I should have stayed down south.

Looks kind of light for NYC area 🙂

I have always wondered why the long gas lines. If you are going to have 2' of snow, where the he!! are you driving?
Stay safe out their folks. Sounds like a great time to brush up on a few new cocktail recipe's in the comforts of your own home.:drink:
Good luck!
They could be like me
I stopped and got gas for my generator today. Not because of weather but just because it MAY be needed. I checked the oil, filled it up and let it run for a bit to make sure all is OK. It won't power the entire house (6KW) but it would keep my refrigerator and freezer going for a while.
Andy
They are filling up gas cans for generators. Sandy is still very fresh in everyone's minds around here.
The weathermen also said rain for the southwest shore of CT...it's been all snow.
Snow AND hurricane-force winds?
I think I'll just stick with occasional hurricane-force winds in the summertime.
Stay safe, people.
Go camp out at your local hospital's lobby area. If there is one place that will have food, warmth and power, it will be the hospital. If you need a shower, just sneak into a patient room with a comatose patient.
Me too. I'd rather be miserable in the heat than the cold any day!
Have a great weekend! B-)
I'd rather shovel snow than work in the FL/GA/AL heat anytime again...
I don't care for air conditioning, and after 8 years of working in the south I do know the difference between hither and yon..
We can agree to disagree
While I may not like the heat in the summer, it doesn't HURT. Cold weather really hurts my joints (especially my fingers). I'm glad that there are people who like the different parts of the country, it would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

Agreed!! The cold weather REALLY pisses off "Arthur" and his buddies who reside in my bones and joints. :-/
Warm weather scares them off!! B-)

I even find it much harder on the hottest days around here than the coldest days !! I get nauseous in the heat and humidity...
How would you rather die? Freeze to death or burned alive?
Maybe, someday, someone will find me frozen in a glacier....o.O
We can agree to disagree

Haven't you ever had a sunburn?
Try walking across the sand barefoot.....:'(

I'm not much for shoveling, but a nice winter day is the best time to survey, no snakes, no black flies, the leaves are off the trees and you can walk on water.
Besides, I wouldn't want to live any place I can't go ice fishing and play hockey on the ponds.
if this is your survival plan, then what is your retirement plan?
