Well, I ordered some new boots. This post would go on my previous thread, about good boots, but I find no mechanism to search this forum. I probably just don't know where it is.

Well, I ordered them Thursday, last wk. and they are already worn out. Lookey where they went:

STOCKTON, CA
7:00 pm

STOCKTON, CA

So, as of right now, they are in Stockton, CA. I'm afraid they will be worn out, by the time they make it to Arkansas!!!

Is this how Fed Ex Works? Ship them all over, find a crate for Arkansas, and eventually, they wind up here?
Shore glad it is not some fine piece of surveying equipment, bumping and grinding all over USA. Shore glad we are not a global economy, where they would go around Poland, Asia, and Russia, and France, before coming down, in Arkansas, All the way from MISSISSIPPI.

Ok, I admit it. I want my new boots. This is what I ordered:
http://www.hi-tec.com/us/altitude-iv-wp.html
Altitude IV. I called them, and told them what I do, and this was what they recommended. But, really, do they have to go to UTAH, Nevada, Northern Ca, Southern Ca, and God knows where next, to come to Arkansas?

OK,

I still wait.

Nate

Maybe someone marked AK instead of AR on the shipping label. Hope you get them soon.

I think that itinerary is in reverse chronological order. It looks to me like your boots started out in Stockton and went to Sacramento on the 17th, then to Reno on the 18th, then to North Salt Lake on the 19th, Memphis on the 22nd, and Southaven on the 23rd. They're slowly getting closer to Caddo Gap.

The boots aren't really the important part. Having a quality durable pair of socks to round out the footwear experience is what counts. I'm gonna' wait and see if Nate posts about the socks. Here's some quality Made in the USA choices:

I'm also frustrated by UPS. I made sure I was home all day, because they said they'd deliver my wife's new musical instrument today.

We had to leave at 6:45 pm and the failed delivery was at 6:57 pm.

I think I got the selection made on their web site to pick it up at their place tomorrow. What are the odds it is still on the truck then? And they'll again try to deliver after we have to leave.

Probably the worst thing about your new boots is that you're going to have to put the same old feet in them every morning.

Not much you can do about that though...

I agree with Jim. I believe the top line in the transit progress is the most recent location. You are looking for it to say "Out for delivery"

evidently, they were shipped FedEx ground not air but everything goes through Memphis. believe me because I stayed at a hotel at the Memphis airport and it was fascinating see the FedEx jets arrive through the night one after another.

Never had any problems with UPS for delivery and also FedEx.
FedEx will not leave a package if there is not a signee and that is a PIA sometimes but you can designate 'leave at door' or neighbor if you know the track #.

USPS is hit or miss. Sometimes they are comparable to the others but sometimes they fail badly. They may hire dyslexic employees.

Nate - Two weeks ago I went to the local Big 5 sporting goods store and bought a
pair of HI-Tec Ultimate on sale for $59.95. The only additional cost was gas for
a 34 mile round trip.

Tha Ultimate boot is also waterproof and looks identical to the Altitude.

Scott, I'm right proud of ya! (I wish I could find my size, in a sort of quality boot, for that price! 🙂

Once I get settled in a style and size that works for me, I will remain in "Shopping" mode" til the end of my life, so I can keep my feet shod!

I'm going with the more expensive Red Wing 899s because I can get my actual size, 14B.

I'm not confident these boots would hold up for my 18 month reimbursement period for safety shoes ($100 max) and they aren't high enough to qualify for ankle protection, anyway. Those glue on soles tend to separate early for me.

I could go with 14D and swim in them or 13D which usually aren't too short and are almost narrow enough.

I've used the type for years. Pretty good for "inexpensive" boots. I'm looking to invest in some Danner's though.

I got them in. I did find out that IF you get them wet, they take a week to dry out!!!

I went creek wading in them, in the rain, and pulled the inserts, and they took a week to dry!

But, I do like them.

Nate... they make a boot drier. I've seen them for ski boots, etc. Basically two hair dryers that you point up and put the boots over. Will dry them out quickly. (www.peetdryer.com)

An old Army trick: SOAK the boots. Get them good and wet. Wear them for a day or two, all day long. The leather will mold to your feet and you will have some of the most comfortable work boots you have ever seen.
