I would like to say that I am disappointed to read that members here are banned for posting their thoughts. We are all adults and should be able to handle the reality that we won't always agree. Such political or personal polarization of either being with us or against us is the basis for such terrible things in the world.
I am sad to see that this mindset lives here too 🙁
:totalstation: Box it up...
Before you get too hackled...
Wendell does not want to referee this forum. He has to earn a living.
The ban is only til oct 1st. (i think a week would have been plenty adequate) but, that's beside the point.
So, it'll be over soon.

Personally, I am fine with people posting their thoughts and ideas. Where some of us have issues is when the "conversation" degrades into personal and (to me) child-like insults, especially without making it clear (by using some of the emojies perhaps) the the statement was made in jest.
I doubt I'm the only person online who is unable to decipher the emotion in the written word without some sort of "help" since I can not see facial expressions through the computer.
There was a time when this board stopped being about surveying and became almost entirely about those occasional differences of opinion. There are plenty of places on the Web to debate politics and religion and call others names.
I'm an advocate of free speech but this is a private enterprise that is not subject to those rules. Wendell is doing a great job at keeping this place on point: surveying.
And 'professional' surveying at that. The professional part requires some decorum.
I believe in this situation Statement #1

Are at odds with each other as those banned could not "agree to disagree" and provided sufficient empirical evidence that they could not, in fact, behave like adults.
It seems to me that the only "thought" that tips the scale of the powers that be and leads to banning since the beginning of Wendell's involvement is the thought that "My ego requires me to bicker and belittle those who I don't agree with in a manner totally bereft of civility and decorum."
Payden Cash was using the bickering and put downs, to teach Sunday School!
I'm trying to figure out what church he attends... "Church of the everlasting fuss" comes to mind....

Thank you Wendel for insisting on and enforcing civility and professional etiquette. I very much appreciate it.

It's a small church Nate named Wildflower of the Forest Congregational, led by our pastor the honorable Reverend Horton Heat. 😉
Over the many years of following this site and its predecessors this is the absolute best it has ever been. Without some level of punishment available the Kim Jong Un's of the surveying world will try anything to stroke their own egos. Others get swept up and BAMMMMM, everything goes to **** in a handbasket. Certain participants find this sufficiently distasteful so they drop out completely. That is the worst thing possible.

Well I am not going anywhere, just disappointed. I do agree with ya'll that it's Wendell's ship where just along for the ride. While some of Kent's pokes may cross the line at time I do respect him and his thoughts remember Salty Dogs do offer lessons from time to time.
Overall this site is kick a$$ and a huge wealth of info! As member @Brad Ott says all the time " I love this bar" and clearly members may need to be taken out back for a tune up, I just think an out-right ban is a little much.
I'll be looking for our welcome back thread on October 1st :stakeout:

That SHOULD be a true statement, but it's not. I was dead against the original politics ban years ago, but it may be the best move Wendell ever made with this site.
Political arguments never 'stay put'. If there's a portion of the website devoted to P&R posters get upset with each other and the ill will quickly infiltrates every other thread on the site. Soon the discussions about surveying topics are turned in to political arguments as well.
The site is nicer and MORE informative with respect to surveying with our benevolent dictator in charge.

the rev was just starting to get known when i was in college up in sherman. i'm neither proud nor ashamed to admit that a few of us good disciples would get the spirit(s) in us and wheel it down to big D to see him wield his mighty sword.
been years since i've seen him live (don't get out much these days), but i tithed more than my share to pay for that man's cadillac over the years.

They were not banned for posting their thoughts. They were banned for posting vituperative personal recriminations.

I agree 100%
I saw The Vituperative Personal Recriminations at CBGB's back in '79...hell of a show.
