Oh, the agony. Sure is aggravating to grow old.
Last night one of the options on the TV was a 1969 movie called Desperados starring Jack Palance, Vince Edwards (Ben Casey) and George Maharis (Route 66). One scene (with TV-required blurring) showed the wife of Vince Edwards, played by Sylvia Syms, splashing about nude in a river. My, oh, my, she looked fine and the wish for a lack of blurring came to mind. Then it hit me. Instead of being 35, she is now 83. That's when the depression set in. I, too, have aged 48 years since that movie was making the rounds of the local cinemas. It's been 47 years since my first X-rated movie, Midnight Cowboy. My interest sagged, much like the beautiful actresses who appeared in little, if any, attire in those movies.

Side note about Desperados. Sometimes the movie producers get a bit nuts on how they cast their characters. In this movie, Jack Palance (50 at the time) portrayed the father of Vince Edwards and George Maharis (both 41 at the time). And, things haven't improved over time. For example, TV's show "Blue Bloods" has Len Cariou ( 77) playing the father of Tom Selleck (72).

That's what they call acting and why they are called actors.
It is fundamental, that the character's age can be portrayed by the artist. Yes. Acting is art.
Not only age but other traits, customs and ethnicity of characters.
One of the masters of film/tv acting imo who always seems to be plausible in any role that he attempts is Robert Duval.
Just didn't have the 'look' to have leading man character roles but as an artist probably could portray one.
For instance, saw a movie once where he portrayed an aging Cuban in Miami smitten by a young waitress played by Sandra Bullock. A friend commented that it was odd that they could not find a real Hispanic actor for the role. It was odd because I felt that he nailed the character as an actor.
My woes started when some national coalition brought an end to the Swedish Bikini Team.

Monster girls really dressed up victory lane at Daytona. And in the prerace Fox had Rob Gronkowski going one direction to interview drivers and Michael Waltrip going the other. Every time Waltrip threw it over to Gronk he was interviewing a different Monster girl.

Why would it matter?
Accepting the award is the act of the recipient. To judge if their acceptance remarks are genuine is beyond me.
I do notice that a major percentage of the time that they have to thank all the various business connections besides family and fellow artists. There must be some extraordinary intrinsic value if an award recipient spits your name out in their acceptance remarks.
That being said and as full disclosure, I didn't see any of the movies in any category last night except the OJ documentary which I watched by streaming on tv. It shouldn't have been eligible for an Oscar because everyone watched it on television or other personal screen devices.
I revived a gift card to one of the local theaters this past Christmas and haven't used it yet... and don't know when I will.
