I heard today on the radio that Ford Motors will reintroduce the Bronco on July 16.?ÿ It was originally scheduled for introduction on July 9.?ÿ Then they were informed that July 9 is the birthdate of O.J. Simpson.?ÿ Ooops!
Andy
its actually today at 8pm Eastern
Now?
I like the look of the new Bronco - and that it is still available with a manual gearbox.
But down under we need them with right hand drive and there has been no word on that
It scared me!
?ÿ
I want one, might have to put in my $100 reservation
I have been watching as this whole thing has played out with some interest. While I 'might' be interested (I like the size, shape, etc.), I am still somewhat concerned about just how one could actually order one up. I am not very interested in a turbocharged 4 banger, and from what I have seen so far, the turbocharged 6 cylinder is only available with the 10 speed slushbox tranny (no way Jose).
I'd REALLY like to see a turbo Diesel with the 7 speed manual, or at least a larger NON-turbo V6 or V8.
Exactly how much the Star Wars electronic BS can be avoided is also unclear at this time.
Also, why the KNOB for transfer case control? Give me a manual shifter for that,?ÿ should be cheaper and much more reliable than a another electro-gadget to go wrong out in BFE somewhere.?ÿ
I think that I will probably just stick with my 2007 FJ Cruiser for the time being, it will probably outlast me anyway.
Loyal
What fraction of them will ever take on the rough territory in the ads? Maybe 1 in 10 will ever leave the roads? Mostly they will commute to work, go to the store, and stay on pavement while projecting the macho image.
Like Loyal, I tend to dislike non-essential electric/electronic stuff in a vehicle. My backup camera and tire pressure monitoring system both failed within months of buying a used van. The electrically controlled heater louver stuck on full-hot on one side, but eventually I got it to move. The old van it replaced had a flaky computer in cold weather and an electric window that died. You can lube mechanical controls to keep them going.

Having spent well over 50 years banging around the deserts and mountains or the American West in everything from WW2 Jeeps to "modern" 4x4 trucks, I have more than my share of horror stories about fixing, rebuilding, jerry-rigging vehicles out in the boonies (as well as a couple of "walking out" stories when there was no other choice, including a 30+ mile hike back in the 1970s).
I have ongoing gripe about modern 4x4 ads (and cars as well), concerning the ridiculous ass-on-fire high speed jumps, turns, and Godzilla is on my tail "professional driver on closed course" BS. It's no wonder that we have so many nut jobs on (and off) the road, they have been watching these irresponsible advertisements, and following suit.
Rant off,
Loyal?ÿ

Thanks- now I have a mental image of @bill93 and scooby eating brownies in the mystery machine....
I'm sensing just a tad bit of "get off my lawn" with Bill and Loyal.... ?????ÿ
Not that I'm opposed to it.?ÿ
?ÿ
I have to first see how I fit in one of them, Fords can be cramped, that would be a no-go for me.?ÿ
It's a Ford product.?ÿ That immediately eliminates it from being purchased by me.?ÿ Call me a carist, I don't care.
May be gone now, but perhaps another one will surface.

I've never seen Scooby, so had to google it.?ÿ My van's paint job isn't quite as noticeable, and I'd never heard of the brownie conspiracy.

It's a cowism (I googled carist to no avail) My guess would be that he's got an aversion to Ford vehicle's irregaurdless of the model or reliability; he thinks they ALL suck!
I did google cowism:
Insert the word "car" in place of "race".?ÿ Pretty much the same letters involved.
Have never been the intentional owner of a Ford vehicle.?ÿ Many years ago my first wife and I separated for a time.?ÿ During that time she needed a cheap auto so found a piece-o-crap Maverick with all the rust spots painted over.?ÿ When we got back together the Maverick came along as well.?ÿ Being a car that spent most of its time in salt heaven Michigan it eventually rusted away to the point it was unsafe to operate.?ÿ The passenger door handle was no longer physically attached to the door, for example.?ÿ The only other Ford of any kind was a 1-ton flatbed that my dad purchased in a weak moment.?ÿ Following his death my mother signed it over to me as it was WAAAY cheaper for me to have it on my insurance than on her's.?ÿ It stayed at her place but I did actually use it on occasion out of desperation.
Different time and arguably a different place, but if the Bronco is as successful as the original Explorer then Jeeps again have a new competitor. Many, many of the first Explorers were leased and when they came off lease, they were worth more than the lease buyout. Leasees didn't get rich selling them, but that was an unexpected turn for Ford Credit.

I just watched a video of the new bronco, I suppose it was put out by Ford.?ÿ
?ÿ
WHO DRIVES LIKE THAT?????
I've driven Bronco's, Blazers, Scouts, Jeeps thousands of miles off road, never treated any of them like that.
That's simply abusive to a rig.?ÿ
They aren't dirt bikes.
