So, I've been diagnosed with hypertension, high blood pressure, if you will. It's a mystery to me; I don’t feel stressed about very much, but I’m registering some very high levels.
I bought a nice little monitor to keep track of the situation, and I carefully record my blood pressure a couple of times each day so that my doctor can evaluate the situation and adjust meds or habits as appropriate.
What’s interesting to me is that, while the readings seem higher when I’m at work, after being home for a while in the evening and having a beer (or two), my blood pressure almost approaches normal.
The lesson to be learned? It’s obvious, isn’t it?
It’s healthy to sit on your butt and drink beer.
It’s a tough regimen, but I’m going to stick with it.

Don,
I have hypertension and had it for the last 40 some years and just keep on taking a pill for it.
Check with your Doctor and take the pill and keep on keeping on.

I'd emphasize the first part of this recommendation. I know of more than a few people who have been able to bring their BP down to acceptable levels simply by changing their diet and exercise regimes. Essential hypertension may indeed require medication, but I advise working with your doc to see if you can beat it with a few basic lifestyle adjustments before resorting to the pharmaceutical approach.
Thank you guys, Keith and Jim. I was being silly, but you saw the serious side and responded like adults.
More than I deserve.
Thanks,
Don
That is not to joke about!

Too much P&R?
😉
Maybe take a break until December. 😛
I have it too... diet & exercise are the best meds....

I had double hernia surgery about 24 years ago by a top notch surgeon. No stitches on the outside and I can't even find the scars now. You will not be "down" for 6 weeks but you will not be able to lift anything during that time. I don't remember the exact timeframe but my wife was responsible for keeping me from doing things I shouldn't for the last 3 weeks. It wasn't that bad but I was a lot younger then. Good luck.

I turned 40 this year. I was a little freaked out when the doctor told me my BP was 120 over 82. I had no clue what that meant, where I was at on the pressure spectrum.
I'm 44 and have had HBP for 10 years (that I know of). Tried modifying my diet but it didn't help. Lost weight... didn't help. I take 4 pills every morning and 5 at night. About once every two years the Dr has to switch my meds because they just seem to quit working. My Mom had HBP and I've been told that it can be passed down. I don't eat any salt, continue to take all those pills and go to the Dr regularly. All I can do at this point.
Don't freak out. Do your homework.

Years ago my MD wanted me to get my BP lower and medicated me... I just did what he said, just like most other sheeple.
I charted and recorded my BP and drug intake for years. MY Normal is on the higher end of Normal, not too high, just NORMAL. Everybody is different, keep an eye out for changes and live healthy... avoid salt, fat, and alcohol (and the other 7 Deadly Sins)
I keep my health in line with good food, exercise, and life style. The meds did me no good and could have actually harmed me. But, I am different, just like you. 😉
PS: Low blood pressure can be a problem too...
I had an inguinal hernia repaired a little over a year ago. They gave me some of the "good" drugs but I never filled the prescription. My wife had the same meds prescribed after a surgery a few months previous that she did not take all of so I took one of those a couple of times.
I stayed off work for a week but then I am a desk jockey. It was uncomfortable for a while but the "beard" growing back was the worst part, in its own prickly way.
I still am aware of the mesh at times but its a good trade because after I realized that I had the hernia, I realized that I'd been dealing with the discomfort for some time without knowing what was causing it. If I stood still for a long time, as in choir at church, it could be quite uncomfortable. Now it is minor if at all that I experience any discomfort in that area.
