I'm so old I remember walking across the room to adjust the volume and channel knobs on the TV.

no lap belts in cars.

Wikipedia says:
American car manufacturers Nash (in 1949) and Ford (in 1955) offered seat belts as options, while Swedish Saab first introduced seat belts as standard in 1958. After the Saab GT 750 was introduced ... in 1958 with safety belts fitted as standard, the practice became commonplace.

I was probably in junior high when I first rode in someone's car (not new) having a lap belt. Neither of our two vehicles (a long way from new) had them when I got my driver's license.

I remember grandparents using the old phones where you turned the crank to get an operator's attention and be connected to your number. We didn't get a phone on that system, but waited until the Bell System was available where you just picked up the phone and the operator was signaled automatically. I was in high school when it was converted to (rotary) dial and still on a multi-party line.

Don't forget "Kukla, Fran & Ollie", and "I Love Lucy", that were not reruns.

What I find interesting about this thread

is the p!$$!ng contest to see who is older, yet by definition, leaving the winner without as much "lead in the pencil" to power through the pi$$!ing contest. I believe this is called a "pair of ducks" or something like that.

🙂

I can still:

Run a traverse with a transit, and 200' or 300' tape. (And Plumb Bob)

I can still calc a traverse with a hand crank monroe calculator.

I can still drive rebar, with a sledge hammer, (not a gas powered one!)

🙂
