Has anybody else noticed a substantial increase in everyday grocery items. I go shopping every 3 weeks and usually spend X dollars. Went today and since 3 weeks ago the price for basically the same stuff is X + 28%+/- ?????ÿ

ie; boneless ribeye $19/lb.

I pay particular attention since I'm the 'grocery shopper' around here.?ÿ It's good old fashioned rape of the American consumer.?ÿ My weekly grocery bill has increased something in the neighborhood of 20 to 25%...and I don't even think of buying anything as extravagant as beef steak...?ÿ?ÿ

Meat/fish have gone up.?ÿ

I haven't priced out everything, but I do notice the bill is larger.?ÿ

Ribeye sounds really good, something like that is on my menu once a month or less now. ?????ÿ

It's called opportunistic greed.?ÿ Prices for the raw product have gone down while the prices for the packaged products have soared.?ÿ Also notice how the price of fuel has jumped nearly 40 cents per gallon compared to two months ago.?ÿ Fuel expense gets in my pocket far faster than food expense.

The problem for meat has been closed packing plants as many had large COVID outbreaks.?ÿ

But what was it in February? A couple months ago it was ridiculously low. Last time I noticed our gasoline prices were midway between winter price and the low.

Yes.?ÿ There have been significant COVID outbreaks in certain plants.?ÿ They are replacing the workers and still producing, though. Other company plants pick up the slack.?ÿ Meanwhile corporate is spending millions of dollars on television ads to spread the illusion they actually care about families who need to purchase their product.?ÿ Hah!

One young man I know well who is supposedly doing an internship at a meat packing plant this Summer as part of his degree requirement is doing it all virtually from his college residence.?ÿ He is not happy about that whatsoever.?ÿ He knows that is a joke.?ÿ He can count it but he wanted the experience more than the credit.

Another young man I know well just completed his degree and was supposed to report to his new job with Deere and Co. ten days following the standard graduation date.?ÿ He is not to report to his new job now until mid-August due to concerns over office population and COVID.?ÿ At the wage he will receive once officially on board that is in excess of $20,000 in lost pay.

It's only money; what are you going to do, take it with you?

I remember my grandparents complaining that the price of a loaf of bread doubled! It went from a nickle to a dime...

I feel sorry for families where the kids fight over who gets what, when the parents die. Mine will be fighting over who has to pay off my debt;^)

@bill93

You know how farm country works.  Those big consumers of diesel are setting idle in February.  Today they are all doing something, somewhere.

There is a very old story involving a very greedy soul who shortly before his death had all of his worldly goods converted into a single lump of pure gold.?ÿ The lump of gold went into his casket with him.?ÿ When he arrived in Heaven he took it with him everywhere.?ÿ Eventually someone asked him what he was doing walking around carrying a lump of street paving material.

@flga

On the other hand, all of the people I've met, that I consider rich (millionaires); the main reason they're rich; THEY DON'T SPEND THEIR MONEY!

Hide under the bed Dougie, they are coming after you. (don’t worry, they only get serious after you get caught twice) ????

My well placed client in that business says the virus is spreading more due to the living conditions with multiple families that those workers tend to have rather than actually working on the assembly line.

There are at least two farms in our area that are selling farm to table meat for just a little more than a few months ago.?ÿ I don't have room in my freezer right now or I'd buy a quarter or half a beef.?ÿ Check in your area, there may be those available in your area.?ÿ FL/GA, I know that Florida is a large beef producer so you may be able to find it in your area also.

@james-vianna

You are absolutely correct.  It may have the potential to spread at work but it is largely a function of the conditions in the worker's home.

@dougie I knew a guy who, after many decades of hard partying, was diagnosed with terminal liver disease.  He wasn't married and had no dependents, so the first thing he did following the diagnosis was buy a new car and put it on his credit card.

My grocery bill is up some but the eating out budget is nearly zeroed out. Beef is expensive, for sure. Chicken is down. Most stuff is about the same. Gas is way down.

As for boneless ribeye - that's for very special occasions only. I'm a surveyor, not an architect.?ÿ ?ÿ
