Well, boys and girls, all those years of tromping through the brush, climbing up and down rugged hills, walking many miles on asphalt (and setting miles of blue tops) plus being around for 61 years have taken their toll on this weary body.

I'm having back surgery, and they're gonna cut some bone away, put a spacer between L4-L5, grab some bone marrow and inject it where they want it to fuse to stimulate bone growth, and leave behind some hardware that look like a medieval torture device. Fun!!

Although it will take quite a while to heal up, I'm hoping for a good outcome where I'll finally be able to walk/stand for more than 10 minutes without losing my legs from under me and/or being in a lot of pain. It's made me pretty worthless in the field.

Wish me luck!

Take a blackjack along

Then whap the doctor with it if he gets too rough.

Here's hoping the entire process is as pain-free as possible for you. It's your turn to have others provide for you for a change. Good luck!

So I take it you won't be joining in any Beerlegger events at the conference next week.....:-(

Good luck and a speedy recovery; hope things turn out well.

Best of luck to you Sir Zapper!
I've only been under the knife once and was wide awake for the whole thing.
Well except for those drugs they shot me up with beforehand. Nothing like feeling super drunk at 0600 without a drop to drink.
Feller sitting next to me in pre-op was about to have his 3rd or 4th back surgery similar to what you are saying.
I ended up back home around 1200 and slept the rest of the day. Went back to work the next day. Shouldn't have done that so I layed out the next couple days after.
Best wishes from here.
E

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes! I'll be lurking here a lot during my recovery, and might even post a drug-addled comment or two, heh.

Awww, RADAR, I'd love to go to a Beerlegger get together. Maybe next time. 🙁

PS: I'm a :girl:

"drug addled".... funny. Have you been watching The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon's long lost cousin Theo was "drug addled", etc. That episode was hilarious.

Post Surgery Report

Well, here I am, 11 mm taller!
My spinal surgery went well, and though I'm not quite ready to go without pain meds, I'm getting stronger and more mobile every day. I'm doing the PT, trying to ride that fine line between doing enough to heal successfully and overdoing it to my detriment. And BTW, the care I got at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle was top notch.

Thanks for all the good thoughts, folks. I'm looking forward to being able to stand and/or walk for longer than 10 minutes at a time! 🙂

By all means

Pay attention to the Physical Terrorists - uh Therapists. When they tell you to stop please do. We tend to be hard headed and say, I can do just one more, but sometimes that just sets you back.

Glad to hear all went well and wish you a speedy and complete recovery.

Andy

By all means

Thanks, you're right. I'm experiencing the results of my own hard headedness today because of my "overdoing" yesterday. Yeowch! More is better, right? Um, nope, not necessarily. 🙁
