I see Gary Busey has reappeared doing commercials.
I met him when I had a job operating the T-bar (a type of ski lift) at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in 1982. I didn't know who he was but upon query he said, " I do a little bit of play acting." He is a real good ol' boy.
Gary Busey and education& training.... that's ironic...
Well there's no "random stuff Dave posts while chasing Hoptimum with Whiskey" category. 😉
Gary Busey, an Okie..
Back in the early '70s I use to party (a lot) with friends in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the OSU Campus. Late at night on the Tulsa TV station (KVOO?) there was a local hooligan named Gailard Sartain that called himself Mazzepa Papa Zoidy and hosted the most insane commercial-cuts on the late late show. We'd smoke weed 'til we talked (and understood) Swahili..AND watch 'Zep.
Gailard went on to be a regular on Hee-Haw. He was a true bard-of-the-ages. Zep had a snot nosed kid from Tulsa, Gary Busey, play his dumb side-kick, Teddy Jack Eddy in a lot of his skits.
You can check out one his skits on the link above. Real stoopit stuff, but hilarious!
Mason Jar Bar
Paden. Did you frequent the bar known as The Mason Jar from time to time? As I recall from my one visit in 1974 all drinks were served in various-sized Mason jars and I think the booths were formed from old bedsteads. It seems there were swinging doors straight out of an episode of Bonanza because some crazy guy came roaring in on his motorcycle while I was there. Was that you?
not me..
nope. As crazy as I was back then, discretion was always my saving grace! Exit strategy is always on the top of the "I'm-gonna-do-something-crazy-with-my-bike" list.
I'm pretty sure I remember the Mason Jar, and a place called Red's that had sammiches to die for. One of them had a dynamite juke-box with lots of Hendrix and Stones.

I'm thinking there should be.... :good:
I think he got a bump from his appearance on Comedy Central's roast of Larry the Cable Guy. He absolutely smoked all the other comedians in the room. Some of the others might have generated a smile from me but GB made me LOL.

>Mazeppa and Teddy Jack Eddy. Memories of Saturday night in Fayetteville, Ar. I remember the skits well and when I tell someone about them they just look at me funny

which is rarely educational.
Heh. Gary always sounds liked he's got drain bamage to me.
uh...he does have brain damage
"On December 4, 1988, Busey was severely injured in a motorcycle accident in which he was not wearing a helmet. His skull was fractured, and doctors feared he suffered permanent brain damage."
It's pretty apparent, even when he's reading script...:pinch:
uh...he does have brain damage
Yeah, bad joke. Sorry, couldn't delete it.
uh...he does have brain damage
Hell, no need to apologize...Gary would laugh!
uh...he does have brain damage
He played a bat crazy version of himself on the HBO show "Entourage". Pretty funny, but he did suffer some brain damage in the accident.

Tulsa KVOO, 1100 AM, was a country station that I couldn't pick up in western Oklahoma until after 21:00 hours. They were also allowed to boost their signal power then as they were no longer having to let a less powerful station that did not transmit at night have their space.
Research shows the Mr. Busey was born in Goose Creek (now part of Baytown) Texas in 1944, but graduated from HS in Tulsa. The TV show was on KTUL in Tulsa.
He is of an age to have attended OSU at the same time as my oldest first cousin did.
B-)
BTW Paden, I was also attending OSU in 1974
