He is a braver man than I. I pray all goes well.

Freefall from the edge of space.

I did not post in sports. Personally, I have sports (& politics) toggled off.
There are those like me who may wish to monitor this.

How long will it take to fall 23 miles and how fast will he be going when he hits?

I heard earlier today that they expected speed to exceed 700mph, but it was unknown if it was would be enough to break sound barrier. from what little I understand about it, the higher the altitude, the less speed needed to break the barrier (600mph+/- at high altitudes)?
at sea level, it's approx 768mph. just how the increase in altitude effects the difference, I'm not a rocket scientist, I'm a land surveyor. Even my stays at a Holiday Inn Express does not help with this 🙂

I understand that because there is very little atmosphere at his beginning height, he can use air pressure to control his fall.

Theoretically, he could begin spinning in one direction or another for a long period of time before he is able to correct, if at all.

The entire fall is suppossed to take over five minutes, and there are a lot of variables about this that make it really dangerous.

Project Excelsior

Jumps made by Joseph Kittinger back in 1959 & 60 are currently the world records.

How high is he supposed to go? If I recall the current record is over 100K feet. The guy was an Air Force Caption or Colonel I think. He rode a high altitude weather up to the jump off point.

If this new jumper is supposedly going super-sonic, I'd be curious what he has to say about the sound barrier shock wave and how that feels as it ripples over his body. Too bad he won't be able to hear his own sonic boom. Wonder what that would sound like. We know what a jet makes and a bull-whip's crack. I wonder about something the size of a human body.
