I was wondering what ever happened to the guy, he had all sorts of issues, and the M.S. to boot. I bought his hp 48 with cogo off him to help him out, even though i own one already.
Also i nearly bought one of those dc 50 units off tim, but glad i didnt, i wonder if the guys who bought them with the unsolved programing issues are getting any help
it was lots of money to pay for a lemon, it seemed all hype and little substance
you cant blame them for trying, but it makes me wonder how the product owners are doing.

David,
I had exchanged emails with him every once in a while years ago, but he just rode off into the sunset, as far as the surveying boards go.
I hope he is doing well. I seem to remember him having small (young) kids as well.
Jimmy
He must have "found" himself 😉
Yeah, poor guy had all kinds of problems and had to air them on the board. Sometimes they don't see the forest for the trees when they are all wrapped up into their own melodrama. (not that his problems weren't legit). I hope he is doing well despite all that.
I hope he's doing well, but I don't miss his rants at all. All he thought about was coming on here ranting against those with a surveying degree.
I think his name was Mike.
He seemed to make one bad choice after another and then wanted to tell the world about it and argue with any advice or criticism.
Hope he is doing well.
Yeah I remember he asked a question about how to make a Tunnel drop on behalf of an idiot who post here. The outcome was comical.
Ralph
I don't remember anyone writing more about what was going on his personal life than him. One day involving things going wrong on surveys, vehicles, and other things almost seemed impossible. He did seem like a nice guy, but I think he was jinxed because no one has that sort of bad luck day after day.
As I recall, his name was Michael Solomon. I also hope he is doing well.
Well my name is Mike but that wasn't me...
I saw posts on the DC50 and thought to myself it might be a good thing, made for surveyors by surveyors it said..guess not.
I will stick to my hiper ga's and FC-2500 (which has a few issues but just PIA things. Nothing that cant be worked around.
I remember he was going to paint his car with a paint brush. I wonder how that turned out......
Actually the DC50 was not a lemon . We use it for 3 years or so . Its a great data collector program . The problem was they could not keep up and get the GPS Drivers worked out , the economy pretty much killed the efforts . If the GPS drivers were written I would be using it today . It was much nicer to use then any windows unit.

I still use mine with a Topcon GTS-302, and love it. It's easy to use and very sturdy; mine recently survived a 5-foot drop onto pavement with no trouble beyond having to reseat the SD card. If I can figure out how to get it to talk properly to my Leica TCRA1102, I may use it instead of the Allegro CX with SurvCE I'm currently using.
The problem the developers ran into was coming to market just about the time the economy crashed. Sales were disappointing, one of the main coders went to work for HP, and the survey business that supported the startup ran into tough times. John Evers, who began the whole thing, got discouraged and just kind of backed away from the project. Support questions went unanswered, and the project went into a death spiral.
I exchanged some email with John a few weeks ago. I don't think he plans to revive the DC50, but his survey business is looking up and his personal outlook has improved a bunch. Even if the DC50 never goes any farther, he can be proud of having created a reliable, innovative and inexpensive alternative to Windows-based data collectors.

My TCRA 1101 Robot and DC50 are still sitting side-by-side, unable to talk to each other. Is there any hope of getting these two wonderful guys to start working with each other?

+2 on what Jim Frame posted.
I still have, and use, my DC50. Very well designed, if you weren't transitioning from the windows based DC's. Seemed like a small learning curve, though.
