Can you still buy smokes out of a cigarette machine?
It's been a long time since I've smoked or been in a bar and I miss both dearly.
I'll never smoke again, but I still hold out hope sometimes that I'll find myself, one day, once again, among the brothers on the bar stools.
You know, the old guy at the end that owns the corner of the bar, the youngster in the middle with his own stick just waiting for a game, the sweet guy in between the two (that was me) flirting with the barmaid and buying drinks for all his loser friends. Not to say their friend was not a loser too, but he was, at least a licensed loser. 🙂
But really, I actually just was curious about the smoke machines: are they still around?
Don
Thanks Don,
You bought back some memories. 🙂
The last one I remember was over fifteen years ago, real old one,
only took quarters. When the price got so high, you could quit smoking, before you got all the quarters inserted.
😀 :good:
Just travel to any southern state and you will probably be treated with that familiar smell.
All of my grandparents smoked and I find the smell comforting and familiar. Can remember the burning eyes waiting for the bowling tournament to finish up. I do not smoke and do not seem to have the tendency to get hooked.
Kate's still has one downtown, I don't know how much they cost though...
Hell, it probably takes credit cards!
B-)

I was at a Clarion Inn this past weekend for a party. The Coke machine by the pool took credit cards.
Haven't seen a cigarette machine down here anywhere in decades. Cigarette vending and pin ball machines were a "connected" enterprise, if you know what I man.
I think they moved on to video poker machines.
I saw a cig machine in a bar oh about 5 years ago or so.
Robert there was a cigarette machine at the Spillway Bar in Norco forever, but I think they might have removed it last fall when they remodeled the place.
Have to show ID to prove over 18 in this state. All the machines disappeared with that law.

Didn't these replace cigarette machines in Baltimore?

They probably did in Toronto.;-)
What a sweet notion, and nice memories.
Quick side track and self pat on the back, I have now gone one year, no beer (or any alcohol).
My wife and kids are happier.

In the 1980's we had a cigarette vending machine in the main drafting room at the engineering company where I worked. A lot of the employees lettered drawings with a pen in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I am not a smoker and I don't really remember anyone ever complaining until it became popular to complain. Ever once in awhile we'd see a young teenager come through the office and get a pack of smokes from the machine. Everyone just assumed it was a coworker's kid until we realized it was just someone off the street.
i always found it strange and funny the monikers that street drugs earn. blue magic, white widow, pound cake, pumpkin pie, etc.
