Not trying to dredge up old issues, but this e-Christmas Card really struck a nerve.

Sorry. I can't stand the new site. It seems like you were unable or uninterested in responding to user comments during the changeover period. I wish you well with your endeavors, but I will not be participating.

I Had To Check, I Just Got My Christmas Card

Because I have an interest in the Ashtech Board over there I do participate, and sometimes it takes more than the usual effort to do so.

I continue to complain, my latest complaint they no longer had the quick link to get to the actual POB Magazine, so I had to search it out to find the latest Lucas Article.

Anyway, the price is right.

Right. And I mean no ill will. I know there are people who prefer one over the other and some people who do both.

Andy-

I trust you have not missed the telling "Non Connect":

RPLS
Complete_Your_Profile Complete Your Profile
With new profile features, RPLS.com is all about connecting with other land surveyors and geospatial professionals worldwide, sharing experiences or simply taking some time to build your network. Make sure your profile is up-to-date.

If and when the BPN Media AKA POB bunch get to understand it is professional surveying, not some pantywaisted geowhatsit profession, then I may pay attention to POB.

Luddite ?

OK, then I am.

But I'm not a geowhatsit bafflegab word professional, nor were any of my preceding 4 generations of family professional surveyors !

YOS

The are listening to us, but they are catering to the advertisers. After all, that is where the money is coming from.

Yesterday was my first visit there in over a month

Things have changed, but, it holds no warmth.

I looked through recent topics and found a few worth checking out. One concerning an ad requesting bids for a topo job by an ultra-cheapskate was interesting. The problem was that the normal series of posts stretched over a few weeks instead of a day or two. Anyone adding to the thread did not expect someone else to comment back on their post. It made me think of what it is like to read a two week old newspaper.

Several threads were on the same topics offered here as well. The poster having posted to both boards, which makes sense if you are looking for all the help you can find. I noted a number of posters there who apparently have not been posting here or are just reading and not participating here. Familiar names.

I find it both interesting and amusing that I did not receive one, even though I am a registered user there. Or am I?

I didn't because I turned off all emails on my profile. I am a registered member, but haven't looked at the site in about 4 months. I was trying to find where to delete my profile, but didn't see that option. I keep thinking of that Michael Corleone quote from Godfather Part III, "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in."

I did not get one either and I don't give a $h!t. If I did they would be the first ones I would give it to.

On a side note, I did get a promotion and a raise since I quit posting there. Coincidence? I think not.

I didn't get one either, until I check my spam catcher. It was there.

I got one too(a canned E-Christmas Card), but I am a little indifferent, I believe there is room for anything and everything, even 2 survey message boards. Although I like this board better, I still like the other board. I Just think they should have went with Wendell, instead of Mickey Mouse;-)

This is a big old world and the World Wide Web is no exception. If Geo-professionals want to participate, the more the merrier.

I have heard that a University in Ontario has changed it's curriculum, it is now offering courses in Geospatial Technologies, previously, Land Surveying.

Well,
I'm one of those guys that visits both sites daily, and post on both.
I've learned so much about TGO and GPS overthere ... and still do enjoy the webinars about scanning, automatic linework, ...

It's clear that the major activity is on this board nowadays, If you wan't your answers fast you'll have to post overhere.

Big thank's to Wendell for making it possible!

Chr.

I didn't get one either, not even in the spam catcher. Maybe they only send to active accounts.

Now that is a funny post. I'm gonna show that to my 31 year old employee who hates the term Geomatics.

Christmas Cards

Well, guys, you know I would send each and every one of you a Christmas or Hanukkah card if ya wanted one and I'd enjoy doing it, too! I don't mean the virtual card, I mean snail mail signed-by-us cards with a decal inside. 🙂 (Those of you that have donated and/or ordered T-Shirts know what I mean.)

Unfortunately with everything going on we didn't have the time or the budget to get any cards out, not even to any of our friends or relatives, but hopefully next Christmas this is something we can pursue. I'll make sure that we do NOT move, NO one dies on me, no one gets sick, and that the weather cooperates. 😉 (yea right!)

Seriously, though... Thank YOU for being HERE. With us. For posting here. For helping each other out. For sharing your photos, your doggies, your motorcycles, your instruments, your weather, your projects, your everythings!! Thank you for being a part of this wonderful community of marvelously talented Surveyor guys, and even a few of us girls. :girl: I feel like I know each one of you personally; like we could just sit down and have a cup of coffee together and shoot the breeze and that's how we want it to stay. :coffee: :hi5: 😀

I got one also. Sending thousands of unsolicited emails with a hot-link to your site seems like a sad attempt to spike the [msg=38420]Alexa.com[/msg] ratings to show advertisers how the site is climbing back to the top right before 2011 advertising rates are negociated.

I'm not fond of the new POB board. Right from the get-go, after I log in to the new site I see the following in right-hand corner and think “WTF??? they’ve got a LAUNDRY list of work for me to do before I surf to their Rubik’s Cube of a discussion board?!?!”:

Read blogs from industry experts

On another topic, I went on-line to re-subscribe to POB magazine. I filled in all the blanks except email address and it wouldn’t continue because of the lacking email address. With a brick and mortar (uh, paper and staple??) magazine that gets delivered to my house, for free, I don’t think I’m obligated to give them my email address (which they already have). So after a dozen or two years I won’t be getting POB mag.

I’ll just have to log in here to see what kind of discussion is spawned from their latest articles on scanning and GIS.
