Does anyone know why cats like to "help" with CAD drafting ... by standing between me and my monitor, laying on the keyboard, rolling around on my papers, licking my hands as I type, etc?

I often wish I had a friendly lap type cat, but ours was a feral who adopted us eight years ago by moving in through the doggy door to keep our cat company. He has become much friendlier over the years, but there are only three safe places where I am allowed to give him a belly rub: In front of the family room couch, beside my dining room chair, and on his bed. Everything else is an instant "No! I don't like daddy" and off he goes. Sigh.

You don't see the Beagle acting dopey like that. She only ignores me if Vicki is fixing food. Then I don't exist. Very narrow tunnel vision. Sigh.

Our cat does the same and when you stop paying him attention he lies to between my hands on top of the keyboard.

Field Kitty

That was my photo from a few years ago. The cat literally jumped up his back and up to his shoulder in one quick leap.

I've seen curious bypassers before, but that is ridiculous! :cat:

Field Kitty

Tripod the Survey Cat. He's in the Big Sandbox in the Sky. I miss him. He was my QA/QC supervisor and all round consultant.

The exact same thing happened to me when running the gun. That's why I saved the picture...

Here's another one:

Doozey likes to nap on top of my desk between me and the computer:

Bun Bun sat on a lap twice in 6 years. Now he has suddenly decided he likes to lap sit on a newspaper??? Sometimes he gets on the sofa next to me and keeps indicating he wants me to put the newspaper on my lap so that he can sit on it:

I don't know what makes them tick.

Field Kitty

Is that a Turkish Van?

I had one that's now long gone but he'd land on my shoulder and sit there and I could walk anywhere with him.
He'd also do all of the other things described here.

He scared the tripe out of a bloke that came to see about a job. Out of the blue Max (cat) jumped from behind onto his shoulders. Poor bloke thought he was being attacked by a cat and he was big cat. I assured him No, but he must be priveleged as he just didn't jump on anyones shoudlers. Not sure that was acceptable reply.

But it sure is a 'cat thing' to love sitting on keyboards and between monitor and user etc.

We had a large male tabby years ago, his name was Bobcat. He would lie on his back on the floor and flatten out like a big pancake. He loved getting his belly rubbed which is unusual for a Cat.

Dave, that sounds like my "Moose Kitty" buddy. He absolutely loves his belly rubbed. A first for me. After a good rubbing I'll go to pull away and he grabs my hand with both front paws to hold me in for more rubbing.
He was the runt. I used to call him "Sleepy" until he out grew his siblings and Mamma Kitty in about 6 months. He still has to be the yawningest kritter I have ever known.

Some of you may have seen this photo circulating around....

This is actually my OWN photo. Well, a photo that was taken for me. My aunt was taking care of her neighbors house and saw their cat laying on the hangers like this and said "Oh my niece would LOVE a picture of that!" 🙂

So she got it; I can't remember if she had her neighbor take it for her or if she took it herself but it was emailed to me by my aunt. (R.I.P Auntie!!)

I sent it off to a friend to show off and posted it on a forum to show people this crazy cat and...viola!!! One day I got one of those cat story emails with a cat collage and viola!! This photo was in it!! It was weird because it was right after my aunt had passed away and I was crying the blues...and then I got that email; wonder if that was her way of letting me know she loves me.

I've had dogs pee on the tripod leg (and my leg once) and once a mutt took the field book... Oh Boy! talk about a race. The dog had lots of fun. We didn't. Also had a tame goat grab the plumb bob string under the instrument and take off, nearly pulling it over. No cat stories though.
