Had to stop in at the City Shop this morning to tell the Superintendent we had finished the job where the adjoiner is the she-devil from Hades mentioned a couple of days ago. A couple city workers were in the break room next door. Stuck my head in and called out to one of them. "Hey, Gary. I was at your place of business yesterday and spent $8002 dollars before I left. You'd better check the coin boxes soon."
Gary and his wife own one of the two car washes in the fair city. My comment had him thoroughly confused, so I explained. "As I was pulling into the rear of your car wash yesterday my phone rings and its a guy wanting to know if I'm driving into your car wash right then. Told him yes and a couple seconds later I had a pickup behind me. We chat for a bit and I hand him a check for $8000. Then I pulled in and spent two dollars worth of quarters washing my vehicle."
Oh, the other $8000, that was to buy a used tractor. John Deere 8640, 275 hp, four wheel drive that sold new for $80,000 in about 1992. Will spend about another $5000 on it then flip it for roughly $20,000.
I was at my father's home this weekend and fired up his old John Deere 3010. I don't know the exact model year but he bought it in 1968. He can probably sell it now for what he paid for it then.

They were made from 1961-1963 at a list price of $4700. You are definitely correct. Check out the range of those offered at this site: http://www.tractorhouse.com/list/list.aspx?Manu=JOHN+DEERE&MDLGrp=3010

I believe that you're just bringing up Tractor Flipping to divert interest from Cow Tipping, a popular pastime in your area, I've heard.

John Deere B tractor and Sickle Mower - $3000 (Fountain, Co )

Wonder if this one is worth flipping?
I have a 1939 (1st year for the "styled" grill) John Deere B that has no battery or lights, no starter-has flywheel start instead, has a magneto that will put you on your a** if you're not careful and will burn gas, diesel or kerosene. I would never sell it for $3000, but of course it was my grandpa's and he bought it brand new back in the day. Then it was my pop's, and now it's mine. I overhauled and prepped it up in 1980, then pops shot it with paint. It is always garaged. It even has a spare power block for it, but has never been used.
Next time when I'm back at the farm I should crank it up and take some pictures of it. After 34 years since it's last paint job, the decals are starting to wear thin again and I am thinking about repainting it one more time.
It looks like this one with the spoke rims. Grab a hold of that flywheel and crank it!...
Ours was a 1951 model and 1952 was the last year they were made. Price in 1952 was $1900. My nephew has our old B stored in a machine shed about 500 feet from where I'm sitting right now. Check out the potential range of prices at this link.

You stole that 8640 for $8,000 unless there's something seriously wrong with it. But something tells me that what ever is wrong with it is probably not that serious....
Some of those folks are PROUD of their tractors. My father's needs some work (1 reverse gear doesn't work) but it looks like most of those shown.
Andy
Weird thing about the older tractors is that some people are addicted to restoring them, not necessarily flipping to make cash. I think sometimes they are just getting out of a tractor so they can buy another to restore.

When those local good-ole'-boys see a cow that can flip a tractor, they think twice about tipping said tractor-flipping cow.
Ain't the tractor that's worth more, it's the dollar worth much less. Since the Federal Reserve started in 1913 the dollar has lost 98% of it's value. Probably going to lose the other 2% in the next decade or less.
Two dollar car wash - you must be in a time warp or something.
Two quarters will get it started. Add more quarters for additional time.

Where I live $2.00 won't even get it started.
My dad ended up with 7 different antique tractors. He accumulated a JD A, 2-B's and a H; an Oliver 70, and 2 Allis Chalmers C's. Still have all of them. He did restore several others and sold them. It was just a passion and a hobby. A passion and hobby that my mother blamed me for....

1963 JD 1010 gas RUS ag tractor w/ industrial model (repainted green) JD710 front end loader & JD 93 backhoe (w/800 #'s of front end weights to keep it from flipping backwards). No ROPS. Yes...it works, fired it up last weekend to grade my washed-out drive. Takes about an hour to swap the backhoe off and replace with the 3-point setup.

Looks like it's about time for another shot of paint.
