Since the river is low due to the drought, I have been looking for artifacts. I found this Grain Belt beer bottle with a clam inside (recently deceased). The bottle was full of mud, so there must have been enough for the clam to eat and stay alive while it grew.
Wow! That clam lived in there for awhile!
Smell pretty good about now, does it?
very cool!
Jerry, next time you have to reset a section corner....
I 2nd Jerry, bury it as a memorial, intact!
wow that is cool. great find
I wouldn't bury that anywhere since it is such a nice curiosity.
It wou make a nice show and tell for a science/bilogy teacher.
or
a nice object for a roadside attraction kind of place. There is a place here called the UCM Museum (now called the Abita Mystery House)that would love to display that kind of stuff along with their other oddities.
or (is the top neck broken?)
I woud fill it with beer and get Grain belt cap and take a few pictures and send to it to the president or president of marketing of the beer company. I am sure that they would love to have it and would pay a nice price for it.
y'sure don't find those around anymore. 😉
It's been done.
That's the hard way to get a clam flavored beer:
Here's the easy way:
I love beer, clam juice and tomato juice.
But I'm not brave enough to try this quite yet.

Just don't drink too many... The high salt content causes accelerated bodily functions... both in the front and back side. They are good, but not great.
A bartender told me one trick to do. Store them in the fridge upside down, so when you turn them over they mix up a little (All the heavier sludge settles in the bottom), but don't shake it... it is beer.

Hanging out in Quahog?
nice find - any idea idea how long it takes a clam to grow to that size? -
and - is the top of the bottle broken?
booze bottle pear
reminds me of Armagnac, or was it Calvados? they wire the bottles over the buds and the pear really grows into the bottle. when you're finished the booze, get out the filet knife. it's well worth your time...
I don't know about fresh water clams, but if it were a salt water clam (steamer or quahog) I'd guess it's about 4 years old..
Unfortunatly the very top of the bottle is broken off, so not the greatest find, but still pretty cool. Reminds me of one of those ships in a bottle.
The newest version is called a Mussel Silo
Developed by Dr. Barnhart, my firm has these things scattered all over Arkansas.

(I think the beer bottle silo needs more research...I'll volunteer to supply the empties)
