These saws are getting better and better as the batteries improve. This Husquvarna is coming to America next year I believe. The kerf is quite narrow and the chain speed is equal to a gas saw.
Thats a great tool for brushing...Do you have one? How long does a battery last...usually?
Cool.
I bought a B&D one at Lowes a few months back (couldn't resist a new tool for less than $100).
I think the claim is it will do 150 cuts through 2 inch limbs. Having used it, I don't doubt that is close.
For the lightly wooded residential lots, it works really well. No fuel to transport. Less noise. Much much lighter than my gas chainsaw.
Not as much power as gas. Will tend to bind in anything larger than 4 inches.
When they make one that has the same power as a Stihl 360, and runs for an hour on a battery, and is lighter than a 360, then I will buy one!
Until then, VROOOM! we gonna use a gas powered one!

I do not own one, but the user in the video gives it a very good review. It will run for about 35 minutes of actual cutting time.

Neat video. He obviously knows what he's doing. Question: Why does he make 2 cuts and then breaks the limb off by hand? Why doesn't he just saw through it? Seems like a lot of extra work.
35 minutes of use with a single battery for $350:

Optional accessory is a belt that can carry extra batteries and extend use time over an hour. Belt can also take shoulder harness, and batteries can connect to the chain saw so that most of the weight is on your hips and shoulders rather than on your arms holding the saw.
I'm tempted to get one myself; the charge time is really quick!
It allows him more control as to where the piece falls.
Yes Stihl makes one also.
When I need a saw I can pack a couple 20 oz bottles of gas and oil and go all day with my arborist saw. Sounds like a waste of money for only a half hour of battery.
Last year I replaced my gas powered string-trimmer and hedge-clippers, and my corded blower, with Troy Bilt lithium ion 20v trimmer, clippers, and blower. They all share the same battery, and I can do my yard (trim, clip, and blow) on one battery charge. This year I'm adding the chain saw and pole saw ... I love it. It's great not having to mess with oil/gas mixtures, and all the problems of two stroke engines.
battery powered chainsaw ALTERNATE
I let my boys use this around the yard without supervision (something I would never do with a chain saw). Might just try taking it to the field as my oldest boy has not gotten the swing of a machete. 😀
I was replying to Nate. The new Stihl seems to meet his requirements if not yours.
Stihl lists the chainsaw under "Homeowners" applications.
Not too bad.... I just seems not to have the power I'd want, if I found a big oak lying over a corner. Gas powered saws are still needed. There are electric Bad Boy Buggies now, 4 wheel drive ATV UTV things. Still not there yet.
Electric cars have to be able to run 100+ miles, at 70 mph, and THEN they will come into their own.
