Aloha,
Thought many of us may enjoy this.
wow. thanks for sharing.
Yes. Great thanks.
Two things I couldn't imagine a world without is trees and birds.
Amongst a host of others.
Yes. Awesome indeed, and beautiful. Thanks for the post, Swami!
Maybe appropriate here; a ditty by Joyce Kilmer, an American poet. This has probably been drilled into every freshman English Literature student that every cracked a book. But it is still good prose:
Trees
I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Pretty cool stuff in there!
I dare not even think about trying to model one of those for my railroad.
For that matter, I haven't even tried to do a simple pine tree.

Good ol' Alfred Kilmer
Few people realize that Kilmer was a man. Alfred Joyce Kilmer was his full name. He died while a soldier in WWI. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Kilmer
Things you learn by being married to an English teacher.
Thanks for sharing, Yoginatha. One of the early explorers in my area described oaks 48" in diameter and larger. Now it's hard to imagine that being the norm.
Aloha, Uncle Paden:
This is a beautiful poem that extols Divinity! It show how humble old writers are. Like fully mature wheat bend low under the weight of the grains they yield. Young immature ones stand tall and proud 🙂
Thank you. It was truly appreciated and appropriate.
PS: I think is overdue for another Cash family story 🙂

Or things you know driving on the NJ Turnpike and stopping at the Joyce Kilmer Rest/Service Area to get gas , coffee, seething to eat and take a leak.
all Jersey kids learn that poem and history of Kilmer in elementary school.
Very cool.
Thanks for sharing Yswami.
Wow, amazing. And here, I thought there were only two types of trees: cottonwood and pine. Dang I need to get out more. 😉
I FOUND IT!
I know, this is already off the first page, but I had to share my picture:
This tree has a creek running underneath it! :-S It's been that way as long as I can remember. I will let you know, in August, if it is still there; when I visit again....B-)
Dougie
I FOUND IT!
Aloha, Dougie:
That is a cool suspended tree! Yes it would be interesting to see its condition now. Look forward to pictures.
Aloha
I FOUND IT!
Found another one; a little further up the beach....
I'm pretty sure this one won't be there; at least not in this position.
Never under estimate the power of Mother Nature!
Hate to burst your bubble (no, I don't, I was just attempting to be nice), Mr. Kilmer's writing is poetry, not prose.
:-$
I think that I shall never hear
A poem as lovely as a beer.
With foamy top and yellow bottom,
Boy am I sure glad we got 'em.

Awesome trees yswami, thanks for sharing.
Great stuff. Missed this thread initially.
Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness. Growing up, we were told it's one of the only (the only?) old growth timber stands on the eastern seaboard.
