Angel - you and Wendell are (and have been) in my prayers for some time. It sounds like you are doing everything you can to prepare for the road ahead. It is indeed sobering to realize that one is mortal. God bless you both - keep us informed. There are a lot of folks here who really do care.

I have a co-worker who just had a kidney transplant a couple of months ago, he had a rough couple of weeks but is doing great now.?ÿ I'm not sure I'd trust that kidney donor you are thinking of though. ???? ?ÿ

Hey Guys!

Thanks for all of the warm thoughts and positive vibes. I go to my kidney doctor at the end of July. I should know more then. Hopefully my kidneys will be progressing at snail pace. ???? I'll keep everyone posted.

Today was my 6 month check-in for my kidneys. Yay! Boo! Eh... Have to do it so...Here's what the doc said.

I have a few minor things going on that will be adjusted but everything else looks good!! YAY!! ????

I will have to have an MRI to rule out a brain aneurysm.
Brain aneurysms are more prevalent in PKD patients. Many die from this rather than the disease itself.
I have had a weird headache for months now, so the doctor wants to rule it out now, rather than wait.
I despise MRI'S. They have to sedate me. But...I'll get er' done! ?????ÿ

I also have to cut down on my protein. My kidneys are leaking protein.

Doc will follow up with an ultrasound and re-check in 6 months. So, my "kidney check-in months" are January and July. Fine with me.

My Doctor said I'm doing everything right and was very impressed at my weight loss, labs, etc... and at my kidney knowledge and my determination to take care of myself and my kidneys. He said he has quite a bit of patients who wait until their kidneys are failing beyond repair, then want to do what I am doing, but it is too late because the damage is already done. He said its always a good day when he has a patient come in that has actually listened to his and his nurses advice and applies it. I said I am a stubborn Italian. I fight back! He laughed... ????

So, there's your update. ƒ?§

This site here explains PKD in a very well written way so even non-medical people can understand it. In case any of you are wondering... ????ÿ

Saw one of my old classmates last week for the first time in probably 5 months. He looked better than he had for a long time. Turns out he had undergone transplant surgery 3 months ago and received a new liver (family curse situation like yours) and a new kidney. There was a problem with the kidney. They put a stent in the new kidney the following day. Two days later they removed the new kidney. But, the new liver is working great. He is back on the kidney list. His sister has the same liver issue and that is what killed their father and grandfather.

I am in a group Richard started on Facebook many years ago. When he got sick, I took over his duties.
Here's the latest from a member in the group. I wanted to pass on to you guys. -Angel

Good afternoon friends and followers.

Today, I made a phone to a great and dear friend back in Adelaide, and sadly the news is not good at all.
Richard Abbott, a surveyor of incredible worth, known to many around the world also, the gentleman who founded the group, Baby Boomers 4 Our Australia is not in a very good way, at all.
His lungs are failing him, his muscles have deteriorated to the point he cannot walk anymore and now spends more time in bed than ever before.
I passed on our wishes to him, and I am sorry the news is not good.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Richard and family.
Stay safe

Jill,

Yes, we all loved your dad. I was lucky enough to meet him out in Utah and had a fantastic lunch visit. I won't hold the vegemite taste test against him. Thanks for finding us and I'll keep an eye out for any interviews he did.

Andy
