Any Surveyors see an opportunity if this idea comes to fruition? What's a sub-cm delivery coordinate worth to Amazon?
"Unlike the drones used by the military, Bezos' proposed flying machines won't need humans to control them remotely. Amazon's drones would receive a set of GPS coordinates and automatically fly to them, presumably avoiding buildings, power lines and other obstacles."
I suspect they would try handhelds, and GIS until too many wrong address' and rooftop deliveries occurred.

What I see is pressure on the FAA from an outfit like Amazon is what is needed to get the rules changed so that surveyors can use UAVs for small scale photogrammetry.
Amazon's drones will have to have some sort of on board spatial recognition to avoid landing on the head of some passer-by, or into a bird, the family dog, or some tree branch, etc. No amount of pin point mapping would be enough without that.
😀
That's great!
As my son would say: You've won the internets.
Very funny. Looks like they are using Binary to number the drones? That would be 619 in decimal. 😉 [sarcasm]Should have made it 1010011010.[/sarcasm]
What I want to know is who in the hell are these people who order stuff from Amazon and have to have it delivered in 30 minutes?

Same people that pay an extra $15 for expedited delivery. My wife enjoys doing this, then leaving the smiley face box unopened in the living room for months.:'(
I would think Amazon would have better luck having centralized drop box's placed throughout the country (Like Redbox), emailing you a code, and having you go down the road to pick it up.
