Okay Robert, then you tell me "What is a minority group?" That term is far too broad without further explanation.

Thanks

All my clients are in a minority. They actually want a proper job and are prepared to pay for it. The majority just want a quote so they can think that the pittance they pay for the job that gets done is a bargain.

The only contentious comment I would make is that the non-caucasians are invariably very well mannered.

I apologize for the poll.
I thought that the topic was to General for forum. I stated my intent in a previous post.

The word Minority was simply used as the dictionary definition.
Minority percentages based on US Census ethnic demographics which is easily accessed.
It is not based on sex, religion etc.
The definition of Client was used to designate who orders and pays. Once again simply the dictionary definition
Corporations can be minority owned.
I, myself worked for an Africa-American firm for a number of years.
Public Agencies would be excluded.

For @Jim in AZ state.
Quick peruse would have AZ having a <58% white non Hispanic demographic
<28 % Hispanic
< 9 % African American
AZ does have a complex demographic for a population of <7 million.

My area here has a population of about 250k with white being close to 80%
African American 12%
My city here has. Population of <10k
White 69% AfricanAmerican 21%
Easier to cipher

I ask Wendell to
Remove.

From Wikipedia:

According to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_United_States_Census&apos ;">2010 Census, the racial makeup of the (State of Kansas) population was:

Ethnically 10.5% of the total population was of Hispanic or Latino origin (they may be of any race).
.
.
.
.
As I am one of the 77.5%, my original comment holds.
On the other hand, my grandchildren are a minority as their father was born in Mexico to natives of that area.

I've asked Wendell to remove the poll
I didn't want to get into parsing of the words minority and clients.
Kind of like parsing meaning of tweets like they do in DC
That should do it. 😉

Time to move ahead

Thanks for your reply. Please excuse my previous comment. I retract it.
But does the KS state demographics represent your specific area where you work?

The numbers from the four most frequently visited counties suggest this area is even "Whiter" than the overall State figures. Thus, working for a minority client is a bit more unlikely. Truthfully, though, there is a large fraction of my clientele that I never meet and would have no specific knowledge as to their ethnicity. All I care about is the color of their money and whether or not it arrives in a timely fashion.

I do recall doing one job about 15 years ago where the primary contact was a true native of Hawaii. I only learned that when I asked about the surname Kumala. Not too sure about Eskimo or other Pacific Islander, though. Definitely have had many Hispanic clients and probably one or two African-American clients per year. Asian clients have all been associated with motel/hotel operations.

Ain't that some fact. Nothing like asking a sincere question and feeling misunderstood by ricocheting shot.

Actually this post made me realize a couple of thinks about my own brain and how the "times" can change sentiment. I realized I do consider "white" people (with generally European ancestry) a "race"...but I was surprised when a post or two mentioned Hispanic or Latino as a minority. I guess I'm so acclimated to our melting pot I don't think of mi hermanos y mermanas Mexicanos as a different race. And I had to sit back a minute to think of folks with African ancestry as a minority race also. I guess with all the media blasts my mind jumped immediately to more recent immigration of folks in more of a "religious" minority status.

I read your "back peddling" and had to chuckle. Not because of your question (I took it as a sincere query) but because of how my 'knee jerk' impulse reaction immediately jumped to "minority" religion and not "race". I guess everybody has a different idea of what minorities and majorities are...I apparently do.

And you are soooo right...you never will know how your bread is going to get buttered by others!

PS - Is it fresh crawfish season yet down there?

Religion never entered my mind.
I do realize various people assimilate into society by various avenues. Some quicker than others.
I read the Jefferson bio Inventing America by Garry Wills many years ago. Interesting that he believed race would become a nonissue in America through the assimilation of the people.
He even used calculus. I guess he was being utopian.
I don't know what you mean by backpeddling. I retracted my reply to
HC. Originally I thought it was flippantly posted which may have steered away from the intent. His subsequent clarification post alleviated the prior post.
I do think the poll was a mistake.

Been cold and rainy lately I had some crawfish a week or so ago. They needed some spice. A lot of spice.

I'd have to say about 25% to 30% are what would be classified as "minorities", which is lower than the actual NYC population percentages, but perhaps more closely reflects the economic demographic of all people in the area engaging in real estate, home improvements/additions, etc, etc.

The aforementioned without benefit of research or back-up info.

We boiled the Saturday before last, they were good, they're a nice size right now. And no problem with spice level when mes amis and I are in charge of the boil.
