Anyone use it? I'm thinking of transferring my fax line over to this. Whatcha think?

Hmmm...sounds like a good idea. I have heard it isn't great for talking. But I would think it would be great to replace a dedicated fax line. Do you even use faxes much?
Just some comments. I have no experience with magic jack.
I've been using it for several years.
I don't know about using for fax however.
Win8 and MJ sometimes have little issue. All I have to do is restart MJ and it's all good.
Given the price, it's certainly worth the try.

For FAX use I would look at an internet FAX service, I use TrustFax as one example.

For a fax line, I would second Shelby's suggestion. I use Rapidfax, and am very pleased. It is $9.95 a month I believe. I can receive faxes in the field. I can fax word documents from my laptop in the field if I have internet. Pretty handy
Why do people continue to use FAX instead of emailing a scanned PDF ? There must be some advantage, but I don't know what it is.
I never FAX something UNLESS the client requests it, and the Internet FAX services are just a PDF anyway on my end, the FAX service just gives people a number and then converts it to a PDF and e-mails me. I use the internet FAX very little, BUT it seems it is needed a few times a year.

Can you port an existing land line number to internet fax?
I would like to keep my fax number which is an ATT landline. Can I port it to anyone of these internet based fax companies?
You might consider Google voice. Free calls across the states. Totally free. Combined with a OBI VOIP adapter (about $40), I have dropped my land line completely. Totally Free calls, use the phones that used to serve my land line. Saving myself $50 a month for less than one month's phone bill....
USB fax modems can be had for $40 and less.
Basic assumption is that one has high speed internet.

My office line is a Magic Jack. I have used it for a few months. Seems to work OK. Sometimes it cuts in and out, but not too bad. For the price, I can live with it.

I can fax a sketch to a client. He can grab a pen and sketch something on it and fax it back 60 seconds later.
I can also fax a letter to a client, he can sign it and FAX it back immediately.
You just can't do this w/ PDF files.

Some people still use them.
I prefer the email and PDF files. I have a client that I do several jobs (residential topos) for each year that I get RFPs from via fax, and she does not use email either. All her plans are still hand drawn.
I make enough off of her jobs alone to pay for the service. The few times I have had to "fax" something when on on out of town trip it has been worth it.
We also use it for our recreation soccer program when someone needs to fax us something. My wife has to fax things to her employer's main office on occassion as well.

For the same reason that some of us still use the Yellow Pages - our older clients still use them. Dealing with an 80 year old man last week that probably couldn't even spell computer, but did have a fax machine in his home and could operate it. Problem solved and client served. I realized a long time ago, that most of the large land owners around here are old people who still had land lines in their homes and still used the Yellow Pages to look up land surveyors instead of looking them up on a computer.
