Los Angeles Area Salary?

The wife has been nagging me for some time about moving to the Los Angeles area, since she wants to be closer to her family now that we have a kid. I have finally started to consider it, but whenever I look at jobs they never post a salary range and I am not going to agree to move if it doesn't make sense financially. I was just wondering if someone could please give me some insight on salaries and whether the pay varies from Los Angeles vs Orange County vs Inland Empire area.

I have a couple of licenses, although not California, a bachelors degree in surveying, and just under 10 years experience.

Thanks!
Jacob

I have found salary.com to be somewhat accurate in the past. It has the salary at $99k.

Seems low to me, especially considering the price of housing near LA.

My solution would be to drop the nagging wife 😀

If you want to work Union here is the PAY SCALE on page 83/96

If you don't want to work union you may want to leverage the pay scale.

When I search that site it is coming up with 65000 for the median. I was thinking it should be in the 90000-100000 range like you have shown. Still not sure it is worth it. The only nice thing is that the wife would make more there as a nurse.

Thanks for the info. I always forget that field crews are in unions in some places.

My oldest son will be relocating from Denver to the LA area the 20th. of this month. He accepted a management position with SpaceX in Hawthorne. He's going to making the big bucks, for sure....but from what I can tell the cost of living seems steep there.

He said he finally got sick of winter. I hope he likes palm trees.

I would be looking for office. That always seems to be were the best advancement opportunities are at and the best use of my degree. I need to touch up my resume and then I will send it to you.

I was a certifed party chief in the Local 12 out there and was making about $43/ hour. I would guess if you get licensed in CA you would be making somewhere around $50/hr. Non-union is probably around $40 I'm guessing
