I have been asked by the company I retired from a couple years back to do some contract control surveys. They no longer want to staff a surveyor at this location.
I asked my insurance guy what his recommendation was for coverage and he didn't have a suggestion for the general liability part. I won't need the E&O and my vehicle coverage can be modified to business coverage easily.
So my question to the solo operators here is: Who do you get your general liability coverage from? And how much (ballpark) should I expect to pay? What is the basis for the premium?
TIA Mike

My policy is from Sequoia Insurance, and my agent is Assurance Risk Managers out of Aurora, CO. The policy is one that Lisa Isom of ARM put together specifically for surveyors; it includes $1M/$2M general liability, $50K in surveyors equipment coverage when away from the office (i.e. in the field), and a number of other things. The premium this year is $546.00.
Thank you Jim, that's exactly what I was looking for.
I use Assurance Risk for my E&O but my local insurance agent for my general liability and Workers Comp, I'm going to guess that our general liability is around $350/year.
Insurance Service Corporation of America is who we use.
"Insurance Service Corporation of America was established in 1994 specializing in Professional Liability Insurance for Architects, Engineers, Surveyors and other design professionals"
I am a firm believer in using an agency that specializes in whatever it is your business does rather than a general agent.

My Ins co has had me with Zurich for years. I have about the same coverage as Jim but pay 2x as much, time to compare coverages and make some changes.
I was with Sequoia also, but they quit doing business in my state (ms) last year, and I"m now also with zurich for over 2x.
Let me know what you find out, I'm ready for a change also.
I contacted my agent at BB&T about Sequoia vs Zurich
Zurich is a A+ Superior company
She just looked up Sequoia Insurance Company on AM Best's website, they provide grades and financial sizes of all insurance companies and Sequoia is pretty small, and financially not very secure.

It is, however, an admitted carrier in California, which means that if the unlikely happens (it's rated A- by Best) and Sequoia goes broke, the other insurers provide coverage via the California pool. Good enough for me.
That was my thought too. Ins cos have to have a lot of assets so I will probably be changing ins cos.
