Hijacked.still

> Hijack off.

Which is exactly the term used in the yinzer dictionary that disses a Pittsburgh sports team. 😀 (Think about it for a minute)

I've worked out of a van a few times over the years. That would be my vehicle of choice for a surveyicle. Lots of room to spread out plans, your paint cans don't freeze, and you can take a nap if time allows.

But to get one in 4x4 gets real pricey, if even available anymore. I've always needed 4x4 so I'll stick to my truck with a cap with side doors. Nice rig though Don & good looking signage.

Nice Don, GPSing the NGS baseline. How'd the equipment do? Has anybody else out there GPS'd a baseline and for what reason?

We have vinyl lettering on the side of the survey truck. People still ask us what we are doing.

No I don't have to think about it for even 10 seconds. But I did google it, and discovered something I already knew......:-P

Those evil bastards have been putting things in the water all these years to create a new language. Somewhat akin to a broken phonics type dialect, but instead manifested into a towel waving orgyesque disorder.

....ya, that's it 😉

Yinzer's Gone Wild

Meanwhile, back in the states, wasn't it cool to see Malkin & Datsyuk play together? Two of the best of the best & hope to see it again in June. Plus, I was pulling for the Steelers this year, but never for the 'quins.

I will never have a van again. Ever. May I present Exhibits 1 & 2:

That's opposed to what the Subaru can do:

yup Newton. Keyword 4x4, plus the clearance issue. But for urban surveying, or ongoing construction sites, a van affords you all the space you could ever ask for.

The last two wheel drive surveyicle I had got me stuck on top of a grassy knoll and I could not move once the morning frost melted off, my tires went down about 2" into the clay soil, and all I did was spin. The wet grass made it worse. The more I tried to get out, the deeper I got. Bad news & my stupid, but Mr Wrecker liked the $60 to pull me out - once he got done laughing.

It's funny you say that. I will admit when I get something stuck that I was the one to do it. And I have gotten stuck in that van before; the most memorable one was when I decided to drive up onto the new soccer field, and left 6" ruts in about a 50 foot radius circle as I inched my way back to safety. The school administration was "unimpressed."

On this particular day however, when we arrived on site, we discovered that the final 100 feet of the brand new driveway sloped down into the area in the picture. We surveyed the descent safely from the top of the rise, which was gravel poured over ledge (there's that Northeast term for bedrock again.) The morning was sunny, but it had rained the day before.

No sooner had I said "Hey, we'll just park here and hike down the 100' to the bottom," than the driver (not I) released the brake and we careened nicely into gravel soup. My mood was "unimpressed." The boss showed up with his truck, tried to pull us out with a chain, and only made things worse by putting us right next to that tree in the 2nd picture.

We didn't get out until the local wrecker showed up, laughed, and then hooked a wire to the van and winched us back up the hill. Of course, he had to pull the boss's truck up first and out of his way before he could get the van...

I've only had to get pulled out once, so far.... I misjudged the depth of a pothole/mud puddle from HECK and ended up calling my buddy to give a pull out...

Operator error at it's best 😉

oh, and I knew what you meant when you said ledge !!

Thats funny...got a bunch of those tee shirts too. Ya just ain't gettin' out. Period. End of story. Simple physics really.

Kinda like Humble Pie. Nowadays I like to collect tire patches inside the tire, and it is always the rock or cactus' fault. Never the driver....:-P

Maybe that's why I don't want a sign on my truck.

I never have been much of a hockey fan. I am a fair weather penguins fans and I will occasionaly watch a playoff game. I have been trying for 20 years to get into hockey. Just can't do it.

Another random thought -- You mentioned phonics. Hooked on phonics teaches you to spell words like they sound. Wouldn't that make you think that phonics should be spelled fonicks then?

Not to worry Neil, Hockey is kind of like surveying. You either have the passion or you don't. You can't just make that stuff up and jump into it. Plus they keep tweeking the rules to make it more complicated.

That being said, the 'Quins deserve all the respect and hype they get. Sucks about Sid being down - he truely is one of the great ones and I hope he makes a full recovery. I'd rather face them in June than any other East team, with the exception perhaps of the TB Lightening.

But first my Wings have to get past Mr Roadie's Stars in the West Finals.... Then again, he is now a Florida Gator, so maybe, just maybe......;-)

Game On!!

Hijack off, again

I once had a lovely maitre' de ask me if she could "...take my hat and jack et off..."

Being the polite gentleman I am, I replied "...yes, as long as you don't try to push up my stool...".... as we seated at the bar....:-P

A pic of my door sign.

How do you work out of an Escape?

I just bought my wife one, but never thought of it as a survey vehicle.

And I'm looking for a new vehicle.

I'm completely solo, so I just fold the back seat forward and pack all my gear. I can post of send you a pic tomorrow of the layout... It's nothing special, no dividers or anything so I can pull stuff out if I need the back seat for riders... It works for me.
