I am interested in finding a very thorough surveyor in Washington State who takes into account the history of a property in context with its surroundings. Someone whose philosophy aligns with retired surveyor Robert Dean, PLS, in his article "Putting Rules in Context," would be ideal. Does anyone have recommendations or leads to share? If so, please reply or DM me.?ÿ
You will be hard pressed to find a surveyor who admits that they are not such a person.?ÿ And you will be equally hard pressed to find a landowner who will willingly pay for a truly exhaustive research job.?ÿ
I found the picture interesting in an earlier article in that issue, showing a capped rebar pounded through an old concrete monument. It's unclear whether that crew failed to search 0.1 deep or just staked the deed regardless.
Surveyors who do a great deal of survey work in a rather small area or who have lived close to their area of work for decades probably take such things into consideration more so than a one-and-done surveyor.
Some surveyors are also historians in their own right.
Find someone who matches that description.
That??s a really good article (starts on pdf page 19, numbered page 17).
@holy-cow I??ve seen the opposite, the local Alpha Surveyor disagrees with everyone else because his solution is ??better.?
I have encountered two people who fit that description.?ÿ Both are now deceased.?ÿ Problem went away with them.
Nearly everyone else I have ever encountered is willing to do the proper research.?ÿ The exceptions to that rule are the one-and-done types who want to believe that the government Field Notes are non-fiction writing everywhere they go.?ÿ That is so far from the truth around here, it is laughable.?ÿ This afternoon I drove along a road, built on the section line in the 1870's where the field notes are from 1865.?ÿ This was a Section 36.?ÿ There is a terrible kink at the north quarter corner, that should never happen if the crew did what they reported.?ÿ There is an unimaginable kink at the east quarter corner, as well.?ÿ The red icon is at the northeast corner of the section.
