Hello, can anyone advise me if a 12V car battery can be used as external power source on this total station?  Thanks!  (appologies if I am posting this in the wrong format/location)

According to Google AI:

The maximum recommended external power voltage for the Topcon GTS-820A series (which includes the robotic GTS-825) is 12 V DC. Attempting to use a voltage exceeding this limit can cause permanent damage to the total station’s internal electronics. [1, 2]
Critical Power Specifications:
  • Nominal Voltage: 7.2 to 12 V DC is the standard accepted range for external batteries and cables on this series. [1, 2]
