We like the Hound Dog. Seems to work well around chain link fence corners. The other crews use older model Schonstedts.

I prefer the Hound Dog (use a different brand).

I had one. I miss it. Works well, just be aware sometimes (1 of 20) the negative pole will be up and the positive pole down....don't ask me why. Longer items like t posts and fence posts will have 4 poles. Positive at the top, then negative another negative and another positive at the bottom. I'm no physicist, just what the hound dog tells me.

One pro is lightweight and easy carry bag for the long jaunts.

One con is low volume, hard to hear in traffic.

I bought one around 20 years ago, back when they were marketed under the Magnawand brand. Mine looks identical to what they sell today. I'm guessing the guts are pretty much the same.
Mine still works great. Its ability to isolate vertical objects has been a great help in quick identifying mons near fences and like.
I HIGHLY recommend it.

Lighter.
Nice layout
Not very loud
Slower sweep speed required
(the newer one as of mfd in the last 6 mos has a faster processor)
This slower processor was a deal breaker for me, with the older one.
If you use it in traffic, make sure you get the faster one. Bob Zankert sent me one of the slower ones. He's good to do business with.
Give us a report on the newer, faster one, that I did not try.
